Let's be honest with ourselves, Miyamoto could have just said "Fuck online" and people here would have been just as happy with his answer.

Moreso, as it would have been more definitive
I'm glad they did. some games don't need online play and this is one of them.
Hell the only ones i have heard complaining about the lack of online is just on the internet, none and I mean none of my friends want online play with NSMBW.
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing (mostly)
And shepherds we shall be,
For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
I just want to address the suggestion that Shiggy is changing his story: this is actually the original explanation I heard with regards the ommission of online multiplayer in this game. I not sure if it was on the Nintendo channel interview or some other source but the whole skirt physics and whatever other excuses were proferred came after.
I can understand why people are unhappy with the ommission of online in this game and the 'why not include it' perspective but I still have to ask, with latency issues and no voice chat would it really have worked well?
Mr Khan said: So now he's saying what he probably should have said from the beginning, that they *could* have done it, but their priority was crafting a local multiplayer experience
ONM: Was online multiplayer considered for the game at all? Was it just too difficult to get it to work without any lag?
This explanation seems like the most appropriate, though that statement about Brawl not generating a lot of lag has to be a poor translation, or he has really never tried it... Full interview here: http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=14117 |
So much for Malstrom defending this game and Nintendo wasnt lazy. Like I said in the other thread RED CASE. Those cases are highly collectible, I know 2-d platformers sell systems and its always a hit but not all 2-d platformers are hits. Only the disruptive ones like NSMB Ds, Super mario, SMB3 and NSMB Wii. Even though I like NSMB Wii sequel but Nintendo shouldnt make another 2-d mario after NSMB Wii part 2. The novely will wear out after that.
end of core gaming days prediction:
E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced
E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.
E3 2010- Tape runs out

Didn't know this was new info...I remember myamoto pretty much saying the axact thing in interviews before the game came out.
After Xxperiencing this game first hand with my bros....Online isnt and I dont think it would be nowhere nears as entertaining onlin

Wrong, stof. Having no online play will sell more systems. This way people have to expose the game to friends. 2D Mario has so damn much selling power that it alone is worth it for people to buy a console for. Including online multiplayer would have pushed the release of the game back. I know I would be pissed, if that happened for something that I couldn't care less for. On top of that the sales charts on all home consoles show that local multiplayer is higher valued than online multiplayer. Yes, even on the 360 and PS3, because to my knowledge the Halo and Modern Warfare games do have splitscreen multiplayer. And then people wonder why Killzone 2 didn't sell any better, even though it was such a damn awesome game. I know that there are people who want all games to have online functionality. I know that there are people who want stories in platformers. I know that there are people who want every game to use the latest technology. But I also know that all those people are a clear minority and as long as this is the case, they shouldn't wonder why they are ignored. And as long as the vast majority of consumers is very happy about the final product, you can't call leaving out completely non-essential features "inexcusable". |
The reason MW2 outsells KZ2 has nothing to do with local multiplayer but a lot more to do on the fame of the franchise.
The huge majority of people playing MW2 are playing it online, not locally...
Online multiplayer couldn't do something like this.
I had people over and load NSMBWii.
They were screaming and laughing the entire time while the adults asked me why the kids are screaming. I said it was designed like that.
At one point where they got to the boss, everyone else died except the 5 yrs old nephew. Everyone cheering him on and he actually managed to defeat it. He was jumping around with a huge smile on his face.

Do you have any evidence for that, like the number of people who play offline multiplayer? Well, of course you don't have it. Maybe it's better to ask why those best selling franchises became such. We know for sure that Halo made its name entirely through local multiplayer and I am pretty certain that the Call of Duty series also really started to take off once they added splitscreen multiplayer to the games. There's no online multiplayer only game that is able to challenge the best selling games on any system. Maybe you want to mention GTA IV now, but its sales actually shrinked compared to last generation when it was a pure single player game. EDIT: I forgot to say that nobody would have expected Killzone 2 to outsell MW2, but nonetheless it was supposed to be one of the big games of this year in a popular genre. Yet it took quite some time until it passed the two million mark which is disappointing to say the least. |
There's already been report of close to 1 million concurrent MW2 online users on the 360...
