Local play > internet play in all situations IMO. If I played WoW I would even rather have my friends over for a LAN WoW party instead of playing online. You should not be buying NSMBW for multiplayer if you lack real life friends anyway.

NSMBW is better to play with friends locally, that way if they jump on your head and dump you into the lava you can land a friendly punch to their shoulder :D.

lol at the Wow statement...

You must not have a lot of Wow experience.....

I played a couple of trial accounts once. My roommate at the time played a trial with me as well, we had a blast because we were in the same room, would've been a lot less fun if we weren't in my opinion. It was just like playing a game of Diablo or Dungeon Siege.

I don't know why they left it out. All I know was that it was a major disappointment that they did.

I see people here saying "local is better than online"... So!? What's that have to do with not putting in the feature? How are people that would like to play with each other online but can't supposed to be reassured by the fact that "well if you could get together to play, it would be a lot better than the online multiplayer that you want but aren't getting?"

Nothing would have to get sacrificed if NSMBWii had online multiplayer. But there would be so much to gain though. It really inexcusable at this point that Nintendo can't even include online in their major flagship titles. Mario, Fit and Sports Resort should all feature online. They'd have nothing to lose, and a lot of game and system sales to gain.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I wouldn't play this game online... the whole fun is in messing up and getting in the way of each other, which would only be frustration online, but fun IRL.

Yea, it's fun, the first couple of times it happens. Then when it happens constantly you start to get pissed.

Local play is good, but how often are you going to have people around to be playing with you? I usually have most fun playing online games with friends in the early hours of the morning.

"Nothing would have to get sacrificed if NSMBWii had online multiplayer"

Designing the game to fit it would be one.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

This is unrelated, but let me tell you a story.....

Last week, I went with my friend to Blockbuster, to see what 360 games they had that he could play locally with his GF.

Looked for 20 minutes and found none. He then told me he was seriously considering trading in his 360 for a Wii to compensate.

Last year, a 360 is all he wanted, but that is because the only one who would play it. If you have more than 1 friend willing to play videogames with you, a game with local multiplayer is key. NSMB would be unused by me if I bought the game. I'd rather play with my friends and family. That's just me.

He must not have looked very hard.

Re5, Forza 3 for example both have local multiplayer..

Don't think those are the kind his GF would like.

And what kind of game would you recommand for her ?

Cooking, sewing and fitness games ???

My wife has played EQ , WOW, SWG and LOTR online extensively ( and still does)..

I've spent over 15 hours playing Re5 coop with my 17 years old step daughter...

About 10 of my Wow guildmates were females in the 20-30 years old range....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I think NSMBW online would lead to more ass-hole-ism than in person.
Playing through the "campaign" in a match-making setting wouldn't make much since, so the only game modes that should be open for match-making would probably be the coin battle and free for all.
"Campaign" play would have to be limited to friend codes. And then theres the problem of where does your online campaign progress get saved, if at all?

I think Nintendo took the better road than most other companies. Where is the local multiplayer in Killzone 2, Dirt 2, and hosts of other games that have multiplayer, just not local. Reviewers used your argument to dock points from NSMBWii, but replace online with local and no one gives a crap, but luckily Nintendo does.

Now, lack of online multiplayer is a legitimate complaint, but everyone knew it wouldn't since we first learned of the game. However, sales of this game shows that the "hardcore" forum dwelling video game player is out of touch with reality, in that most people don't care and would much rather play with family/friends in one place, or don't even care about the online component in this game. This game will sell 20-30m units but online would tack on what, maybe a few 100k sales?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

If you are trying to get buns, you do not break out Forza Motorsport 3 or Tekken 6. Remember that.

This i think is part of the mentality that's keeping them from embracing online. Sony and Microsoft have seen the benefit to sales that online brings, whereas the only Nintendo games that i think have benefitted sales-wise from online have been Mario Kart: both DS and Wii.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
