SEGA already got the best srpg this gen , and I hope they can the best hack n slash this gen with bayonetta(if the full game even has half the fun of the dome this will be easy)

You meant to say Banpresto, but I forgive you.

I think he got it right, but it's ok. We all stumble.

I'm glad to hear everyone is enjoying it. If I can manage to get over killing angels, I'll definitely buy it. It looks like a top notch game.

I spent a long time on ign's new site looking for a review and was thinking "their new interface is horrible, I can't seem to find where they keep the review for the game."

Then I noticed it came out in 2010. Silly me. That being said, I don't see much promise in a game that so obviously is relying on sex appeal. I can't remember the last good game that relied on sex appeal for the main character.

Having something and relying on it are two different things my friend, and you should learn to differentiate.

It's just been my experience that games based off of movies or games with a female character with an obvious attempt at sex appeal aren't very good.  I won't dismiss the game outright, but it will take a really good recommendation for me to consider buying the game.

What about games that treat male characters as sex objects? Nobody seems to have a problem with Kratos walking around half naked the entire game. What about Street Fighter, Tekken, or DOA. Those games all have semi-naked men and women who desperately try to look sexy. Hell what about Soul Calibur.

.....or Final Fantasy XIII? Lightning has her inner thigh pointing to the camera on the freakin' box?

Most things use sex to sell. Many things that are based on sex, are great.

I mean, what about porn? It is the direct result of selling sex, and basing its viewing experience around it. Some porn is great. Don't tell me you think all porn sucks?

Also, anime. There is a lot of anime that not only contains, but is based around fan service. Some of it is fantastic, like Love Hina. I wonder if you dislike those things just because they use sex to sell themselves.

I don't think you quite understand what I am saying.  That, or you are seeing what you want to see in my post.

Something that has sex appeal isn't necessarily a bad thing.  However, games that throw sex appeal in our faces generally tend to be bad.  The most famous case being the Tomb Raider series (as a whole) and another recent example is the game Wet.

As for Street Fighter, Tekken, and Soul Calibur;  I bought those games because people recommended them to me, not because of sex appeal.  Same thing for the anime I watch.  All of those mentioned in your post (with the exception of DOA and porn) don't seem to rely on sex appeal as much is Bayonetta seems to.

However, this is an argument we should be having after the game is released.  I am trying my best not to get a prejudice against the game until after I've given it a try.  However, using sex appeal so blatantly, is definately not helping my impression of it.  I think there are a lot of other gamers who will look negatively on the game because of it.

I dunno if all porn sucks, no doubt most of it blows, but it's certainly all tacky and of little if any merit. I'd really hate for gaming to descend to the level of porn as entertainment. It seems to go poorly for Bayonetta if you need to invoke porn to claim legitimacy for the sexualised elements of a game. Fortunately I don't see the use of sexuality in this game as being quite than low down the scale. One of the things I do find a annoying is the cheesyness and the immature way sexuality is used in the game. The game is trying to have fun with it, but somehow it's just not done all that well. I can't quite tell whether it's too over the top, or not over the top enough, whatever it is it just doesn't work for me. The one thing it doesn't do is help raise the general opinion of gaming out of being strictly the preserve of horny teenage boys who like killing things.

After watching the 15 minute Youtube clip I'm not more inclined to get the game, but I'm not less inclined either. My opinion hasn't changed. It looks good, it's got some unique qualities, but I have my doubts about its greatness. It is yet to prove itself to me, not that it needs to; the game will succeed or fail whether I like it or not, failure being rather unlikely.

IGN review came in

9.5 for the xbox. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/105/1056885p1.html

PS3 is significantly lower. That makes me sad as its probably going to generate a huge backlash from PS3 fans...which the game doesn't deserve.

this is the part that should make the sale for most people:

"Gameplay
Bayonetta has one of the best combat systems I've ever experienced. Fluid, fun and unique."

That's a nice review there, but I'm going to wait until I actually play it.

IGN is the office that universally reviled God Hand, if you remember.

It's fun, I really enjoyed what I've played of it. No, not God of War fun IMO, but fun nonetheless.

I am 99% sure ill like this more than god of war. To me God of war has always been a game that relies on amazing visual presentation, violence and "shock and awe" moments/bosses.

Gameplay wise DMC and Ninja Gaiden mop the floor with it in my opinion(last gen)

To each their own. Bayonetta doesn't hold a candle to the depth and destruction of God of War, IMO.

Based on the demo , I believe that bayonetta has alot more depth (gameplay wise) than god of war.....story wise we will see.

lol...someone used God of War and "depth" in the same sentance?

Don't get me wrong, God of War is a thoroughly well-designed and near impeccably well-put together...but even back then, Ninja Gaiden runs circles around it when it comes to actual combat depth. God of War does look pretty when combat is on screen.

It has no sex appeal whatsoever for me (i don't find the character good looking at all) and I'm not a big fan of DMC type games so I'll pass.
