Forums - Gaming - Why is FF7's shocking moment considered the most shocking *spoilers*

Also, I'd just like to say, even as a silent protagonist, can anyone really say Chrono wasn't a better character than Aeris?  It really is baffling why Aeris is labeled as the most 'shocking' moment in an RPG to this day, while on the most part people still look back to Aeris as a forgettable and even boring character.

Well, Aerith's death isn't labeled as the most shocking moment in an RPG game to this day. Far from it. It is, however, the most well-known twist (arguably) since FF VII is probably the most popular FF game. Learn to tell the difference please.

Nei's death (I won't say which game, but it was a pretty big deal in the RPG world) was pretty impactful, too. People were using glitches and everything to bring that character back. Final Fantasy 7 didn't do it first. It just did it to a bigger audience (like Michael Jackson and the Moonwalk).

chrono trigger's plot twist is pretty brutal (don't wanna spoil anything), but Aeris dying is so shocking thanks to her charisma and personality.

Alys's death was quite shocking as well. I didn't see that coming at all. It was like, wow... shes dead? No way... I bet she gets revived or something.
Didn't happen.

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

Why didn't they used a Phoenix Down on her?

Above: still the best game of the year.

You know whose death shocked me? Rita's.

The foreshadowing for that was just so subtle.

Can't wait for season 5.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

I must agree friend.

On topic. Like others have said, its because FF7 is just so popular and sadly, its the only RPG some people have played start to finish. In my opinion anyway.

I am a gamer. Not a fanboy, not a troll, a gamer. So when you dont like what I have to say, remember this fact.

You know what? I didn't even get a chance to be shocked, because someone on the Californication-board on IMDB spoiled it for me 10 minutes before I saw the episode. Yeah, Californication-board. Completely unrelated show. Pissed me off.

I think the really sad part in FF7 is why Sephiroth did it.

He just wanted to win...

That was so random and so funny, to me!
