This only proves that it was set for failure. At 250$ and no UMD drive is was doomed to failure.

Digital distribution= thumbs down
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:
a. a AAA 3D sonic title
b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"
c. redesgined PS controller
d. SEGA back in the console business
e. M$ out of the OS business
So what? Sony planned the PSP as some weird experiement in digital download? C'os if you're expecting it to sell crap, why release it?
Wow.. you have to love Sony's PR. If sales expectations were this low, then why did Sony bother releasing the thing? Sales were like 3,300 last week in Japan. PSPgo is an ueberflop any way you look at it.
havnt got much imaganition then

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"
"England expects that everyman will do his duty"
"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

1) Its just PR, SONY wanted more sales but won't admit it (yet)
2) SONY cares about how many they sell to retailers
3) It was an experiment about digital distribution only
4) Its making a profit
Because of the above four reasons SONY has be happy with the PSP Go -- sure they wanted it to do better. Maybe they expected to it sell better aswell, but atleast it gives SONY some experience with making a download only handheld. It teaches them how retailers will react to it, how consumers will react to it, What consumer buying habits are like, how to deal with publishers about putting full versions of games online, etc.
As such i hope that next gen SONY it able to create a better PSP2 based off what they have learnt with both the PSP-1000(to 3000) and PSP Go models.
| leatherhat said:Make sony some easy money. Sony is making tons of money sold on each pspGO, it only shipped 150k in Japan? Who cares, at its price that would be like selling 300,000 psp 3000s, maybe more. |
I'm sure the Japanese retailers who have this turkey clogging their channels "care". PSP's already down massively YOY in Japan (it's one viable market), Sony can't exactly afford to burn bridges...
| leatherhat said: They didn't expect psp go to sell gangbusters, it had missions laid out for it that it accomplished. 1. Generate buzz for the psp (Complete, after all here we are talking about it) 2. Test the waters of digital distribution, its going to be a huge factor for future sales and Sony is the first game company to really give it a test to see if people would accept it. 3. Make sony some easy money. Sony is making tons of money sold on each pspGO, it only shipped 150k in Japan? Who cares, at its price that would be like selling 300,000 psp 3000s, maybe more. It offset the ps3 price cut and now when sony cuts it to like 200 bucks, it will give it a big publicity shot. |
for point 3, you have to take into account development costs. While I'm sure it didn't cost a fortune to develope, they still put in new parts and had to test everything, along with new firmware. You also need to throw in the costs of starting up a new factory (and shutting it down after such horrible sales they'll need to). I wouldn't be suprised if they haven't made a lot of money on the Go yet. Of course we'll never know anything, as its profits will be combined with every other system.
