They didn't expect psp go to sell gangbusters, it had missions laid out for it that it accomplished.

1. Generate buzz for the psp (Complete, after all here we are talking about it)

2. Test the waters of digital distribution, its going to be a huge factor for future sales and Sony is the first game company to really give it a test to see if people would accept it.

3. Make sony some easy money. Sony is making tons of money sold on each pspGO, it only shipped 150k in Japan? Who cares, at its price that would be like selling 300,000 psp 3000s, maybe more. It offset the ps3 price cut and now when sony cuts it to like 200 bucks, it will give it a big publicity shot.

for point 3, you have to take into account development costs. While I'm sure it didn't cost a fortune to develope, they still put in new parts and had to test everything, along with new firmware. You also need to throw in the costs of starting up a new factory (and shutting it down after such horrible sales they'll need to). I wouldn't be suprised if they haven't made a lot of money on the Go yet. Of course we'll never know anything, as its profits will be combined with every other system.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
