Forums - Gaming - this is just pathetic

I agree that the boxart sucks.

The game looks cool though, and I don't think the franchise should die unless it starts sucking.

EDIT: Yay, twesterm's FF15-post again :D

Around the Network

In my school people aren't any hyped for it. In my classroom is just me and 2 girls, the others don't even know what FF is. The "hardcore" want to play CoD, Halo, Gears, GTA, Fifa, PES and etc.

I'm the only person that likes the older franchises. I boy in my school has a hacked 360, and asked him to atleast download the first disc, because he NEVER played a FF before and don't like it.

Wait, what? You are angry, because some of your friends don't like ff and say it has become too repetitive. Err... They are pathetic? Lol...

Some people just don't "get" Final Fantasy... or jRPGs in general actually. There's like this barrier because the battles are turn-based and every recent iteration has at least 1 annoying emo character you just want to kill. I tell them it's because the story is good and immerses you into the world and then they'll reply with "But Metal Gear Solid/Mass Effect has a good story and they don't have stupid battles".

Just enjoy the game when it comes out.

how funny, I think you and I have the same friends. Considering FF is completely different with each one that is released..

While I support as many quality games as square enix can pump out, originality is not something the series has ever really had as a strong point.

You can sumarise pretty much every plot except 12(which is only slightly different) with generic character titles and explain every game.

1) Generic male protagonist has some event which either leaves him stranded or lost or missplaced in some poor or non-adventageous position.

2) Generic male meets or is already a member of some group of support protagonists that undergo some mission to complete some goal to save the world. (IX Parodies final fantasy actually in its beginning, but then gets back on the same plot line)

3)Generic male has something special about him that makes him superior to other people in the world or "special". Generic male meets someone with the same or similar specialness that turns out to be the main protagonist. or already knows him.

4) Evil corporation or organization or group of individuals (usually corp/org) is trying to ruin and oppress the world.

5) Group goes agaisnt them.

6) Drama between one or two female leads ensues.

7) same spells maybe with slightly different names, magic, melee, ranged steriotype class system with a few exceptions (X-2).

8) Showdown with said similar antagonist.

9) Couple of game unique, yet similar super bosses.

10) Some "gimmick" system that is basically a reimplementation of limit breaks from FF7.

11) Have some summons, give them different names in different games and slightly alter the system.

Find a main series game that does not fit at least 8/11 of those points.

10 fits the class one even though it doesnt really have a class system since you can never do anything outside of it.

You could go on all day, but final fantasy is successful because it has a formula that works. If they ever make anything different (like my life as a darklord) it is a massive failure.

Fans know what they want, innovation is not one of them.

Be happy final fantasy doesn't change its structure, if it did you wouldn't like it.

You could say the same for a lot of jRPGs to be fair. Final Fantasy doesn't innovate as such, but if you look through the series there is usually evolution from one game to the next (e.g. the Junction system in VIII compared to the materia system in VII).

I know many people who think its gone on for way too long, I mean we are at the thirteenth main release now

BUt I am confident FF13 will recapture peoples imaginations

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

In all honesty; how often do we see an original plotline? I haven't seen one yet this gen. And, yes, I'm being absolutely serious. The only one that's kind of original that springs to mind is Bioshock, too bad it had gameplay issues.

The only things that have evolved in the Final Fantasy games are the graphics (which isn't something to be praised), and the combat system. And even then the more recent combat systems are mediocre... they're slow-paced yet give almost no tactical play compared to Baldur's Gate's and Dragon Age's (both of which have faster combats too).

Final fantasy haven't evolved in terms of plot/narrative and RPG mechanics. Even worse, they still use the same animu weeaboo crap in their games.

Well, yes, but you're comparing Western... and Bioware for that matter (the cream of the crop) to jRPGs instead of looking at jRPGs seperately. If you look at jRPGs in general, Final Fantasy is probably one of the few series to even try anything remotely new. Trying to balance the needs of Western gamers to the more increasingly isolated Eastern tastes is proving to be difficult for Japanese devs.

The anime comment is a matter of taste. It's actually partly why I'm looking forward to XIII versus more than XIII, the art style is more to my tastes.
