The only things that have evolved in the Final Fantasy games are the graphics (which isn't something to be praised), and the combat system. And even then the more recent combat systems are mediocre... they're slow-paced yet give almost no tactical play compared to Baldur's Gate's and Dragon Age's (both of which have faster combats too). Final fantasy haven't evolved in terms of plot/narrative and RPG mechanics. Even worse, they still use the same animu weeaboo crap in their games. |
Well, yes, but you're comparing Western... and Bioware for that matter (the cream of the crop) to jRPGs instead of looking at jRPGs seperately. If you look at jRPGs in general, Final Fantasy is probably one of the few series to even try anything remotely new. Trying to balance the needs of Western gamers to the more increasingly isolated Eastern tastes is proving to be difficult for Japanese devs.
The anime comment is a matter of taste. It's actually partly why I'm looking forward to XIII versus more than XIII, the art style is more to my tastes.
