Forums - Sales - Battle of E3 2005 games, Who will sell more??? (Alan Wake Vs Killzone 2)

Slimebeast said:
Both will sell slightly more than 3 million, but Alan Wake will sell a lil more than KZ2.

KZ2's strength is that it's a shooter. And a shooter who got 91% Meta.

Alan Wake's main strength is that it will be an overall amazing game and get 93-94% Meta. Plus MS will market it well.

You all please member that new AAA IPs like Left 4 Dead, Bioshock and Mass Effect sold very well on the X360 (all +2.5 mill when all is said and done).

You please remember that Alan Wake isn't released yet and could possibly get a 70-80 meta

I don't think Remedy just decided to remove free roaming for the hell of it, I'm sure they had a pretty good reason for doing so.

Dev time/costs is my guess.

If they didn't remove it, we could have been waiting until 2011 possibly...

1UP: What would you do differently if you were starting over again now?

SL: To be honest I think we could have seen that the sandbox game structure was not working for Alan Wake earlier. Early on in the project, we were making a lot of compromises regarding this, before we decided to concentrate on the story-driven, tightly paced, and packed thriller experience. I'm very glad that we did, but on the other hand, I wouldn't change a thing. I think this has been a wonderful journey and we have all learned a lot on the way. It has not always been easy and has called for a lot of determination and faith. In the end, I hope that all the love, care, and thought the team has put into this game will shine through to gamers.

Why is everone so sure Alan Wake will be one of the greatest game this gen? I know Remedy did make some other good games, but we still know very little from the game itself.
And don't forget that new IP's don't tend to sell that much. So I think it's gonna be difficult for Alan Wake to top Killzone 2 sales, which will be probably more than 3 milion LTD.

And what genre do these successful, new IPs L4D and Bioshock belong to? Oh, *shooter*...

As for Mass Effect, it's dying at 2.10m and selling ~1k weekly (outside the most recent weeks in this run up to Christmas).

Hmm.... what now...

Well, Uncharted is an action-adventure who managed to sell 2.8 mill on a console with a smaller userbase.

Plus Mass Effect might be undertracked in Europe lol.

@wholikeswood

just say what you think about the thread and its question rather than picking on someone elses point for a change. what do you think it will sell and will it beat KZ2.

Embarrassing for you.

@ Slimebeast: We have to bear in mind that there were special circumstances to UDF hitting 2.8mil (bundles, lack of competing decent software on the platform). Not that I think Alan Wake can't do UDF figures anyway.

As for Mass Effect being undertracked in Europe - it's pointless going down that route because then everyone will start saying "my favourite game is undertracked in X or Y continent" without anything to support it. Specifically in the case of ME, I highly doubt it is undertracked in Europe - the balance of US to EU sales is more or less in line with the disparity between US and EU 360 hardware totals.

Now that I think of it I have come to expect over 3 million for all X360 AAA exclusives. So actually Mass Effect sales @2.1 mill are disappointing and kinda sux lol.

I don't know where I got this idea of X360 and +3 mill for AAA.
