He talks about originality and yet, Nintendo are doing the same thing over and over for many generations running. Yes, they set themselves apart from others but do not reinvent themselves, which holds less value than one might think imo.
At this point though, they don't need to reinvent themselves, they're doing just fine!

PS: I'm talking about the games and not the console, not a lot of new, exciting IP's from Nintendo or too many vastly different takes on the old ones, after all.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not given the texture of this generation

But you've mentioned not owning any current-gen systems, right?

Why wouldn't I be serious?

I own one current gen console now and will have two come january. What exactly in my post irked you? Is any of it blatantly false or very aggravating? I don't think it is, its just an observation.

If his tags are to be believed, he owns a PS3.  Then again, this is a world where Rol owns Ridge Racer, GRID and DIRT.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I can't think of any specific games that Nintendo makes that would work with a realistic focus.

Metroid, Zelda could work, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem.... But the question is would you want them to?

It's just that Nintendo uses many of their series as testing grounds for new gameplay concepts, essentially reinventing them once every couple of generations. Metroid and Zelda would be the big ones, though what they're done with the Wii series is also a big one.

I just don't understand how one can dismiss Nintendo as "doing the same thing over and over for many generations running", especially this generation.

Save for the addition of waggle and motion controls, what makes Zelda, Mario, Super Smash Brothers, Metroid and Mario Kart very different this gen? Not a whole lot in my opinion, which is fine by me. Don't fix what ain't broke like they say, my point is that they don't have to be radically different to be good.

I'll give you Zelda and I'm not familiar with Fire Emblem. For Metroid, only to certain extent. I think fans would prefer Kid Icarus with a visual style similar to Galaxy. And no, I wouldn't want them to. I would prefer if they just made New IP's if the want something in that direction.

Hence why I said "every couple of gens" for each franchises. Zelda Wii is apparently oging to be one of the big game changers this gen, but last gen saw more stuff in the vein of Metroid Prime and Star Fox Adventures.

Nintendo does change up their franchises, it's just that they don't do it every generation or every other iteration of a franchise.

That Mario in the photo was a freak.... reistic graphics could work in zelda

of course they don't have too, we get tons of cellshaded games on the ps3/360 too.
or games like white knight chronicles. atelier ronora.

but it would be nice for others be able to do HD graphics, but the wii isnt' capable of that

Personally, I hope they don't change Zelda a whole lot, if only for the simple reason that I found to apparent flaws in Twilight Princess.
The differences between N64, GC and Wii era are minuscule at best though (which, again, works just fine) so I don't fully understand how Miyamoto sees everything he does as original.
The differences from SNES to N64 are heavily influenced by the simple fact that 3D graphics rolled in at full speed and everyone changed the way they made games (Nintendo jumped on this bandwagon as well by the way, like everyone else, leaving the only original choice to using cartridges which was arguably not a grand idea at the time).
But if you look at Mario Kart for instance, the differences between SNES and N64 (and subsequently GC and Wii) aren't that big except a lot more advanced visuals, the gameplay and controls are very similar still.

On the flipside, I find it cool and intriguing that Nintendo took a step back into sidescroller land with NSMB Wii, that game is simply sensational imo and I actually liked it a lot better than Galaxy!
