Core gamers don't really consider handheld as "core"
much the same attitude with Laptop and PC gamers.
Not saying there is any form of "dimissal" here.

I must say I was wrong too
the PSP nearly made me leave handheld gaming (just like the gamecube did for console gaming)
both those systems gave me nothing but maybe 1 worthwhile game

They won't ever show. Humans much like most animals don't like to show weakness. Admiting your wrong is a sign of weakness. Though being able to admit your wrong shows more signs of being a Human than an animal.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Back when PSP and DS were still in a 'war' there was a lot of dismissing of the DS not being "as hardcore" as the PSP. A good portion of prototypes for anti-Wii arguments were launched against the DS. "Casual" wasn't yet a popular buzzword in 04 and 05 so the general trolling was that the DS only had "tech demos" compared to the PSP and that they were too shallow. Yoshi's Touch and Go was frequently cited as an offender since its non-complexity ruined many lives on the internet.
Of course when the DS trashed the PSP in sales and the PSP's release schedule came to a grinding halt, the arguments went from "PSP has real games and DS has tech demos" to "I don't care about handhelds."

My bother and one of our college buddies insisted it was another Vitual Boy. They did admit they were wrong later. Another guy called it "a half-assed PDA".
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Yeah i dont think anyone expected the DS to dominate that way. PSP was the new hot thing for a while, and even where i live the DS isnt even heard of up till now. However it was just revolutionary in the end, and its still selling at huge rates even after all this time. Nice Read

Funny that it was around that time when I first heard the word springing up, often used as an insult.
I don't know much about the handheld/console front back then, but WoW came out in 2004. For as long as I can remember, this game has had the "hardcore" bitching endlessly about "casuals," and how Blizzard was dumbing the game down by catering to them. It was annoying then, and it's annoying now - I was amazed to hear the same crap when I took more interest into the console end (~2007), it's almost like it followed me here. These "hardcore" really are an intolerable bunch.
