Forums - Microsoft - Greenburg makes some bold comments about Reach, PS3, GT5, etc.

When asked if perhaps Sony's Gran Turismo 5, which is set to launch in Japan in March and is likely to launch in the West in 2010 as well, might give it a run for its money, Greenberg was dismissive.

"Is it launching next year?" he mused. "I've seen years and years of minigames, but I haven't seen that the game is done. They just released the PSP version -- maybe that's what they've been working on. I feel confident that there's nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010."

...and this is where he makes himself a dick and the rest of his comments worthless.

speaking the truth doesn't make you a dick and his comment is accurate... how long has GT5 been in development for and they keep adding crap to the game... if they would have build the game and released it like a normal game it would have been out this year, but then they have to add all this extra stuff after Forza 3's showing and it's really kind of annoying.  Stuff like Rally and NASCAR could have been DLC pretty easy.

I thought MS would stop with hits at GT5 when F3 released.

Meh, they will learn soon enough.

Anyway, Reach will have some stiff competition next year with 2 other big FPS games releasing close to it, CoD and MoH. Will they affect the legs? Will be an interesting battle.

Learn what? That GT will outsell Forza massively ... yeah news flash, they already know this Carl.

They will never admit it though, and why on earth wouldn't they put GT down and praise Forza .. this statement isn't meant for fans/fanboys.

The thing is, they dont have any reason to downplay it now Forza has already released. It's called - "Being an ass".

We dont see Polyphony talking shit about Forza... Do we?

I cant wait for GT5 to dominate Forza in both sales and reviews Will be a good day

It's not going to "dominate" in reviews. Forza 3 is a AAA game sitting at 92 on Metacritic. Do you think GT 5 is going to score 100 or something, because even if it did, I'd really wonder if you knew what the word "dominate" meant.

"Dominate"... I was talking both together... You know, 2 victories, instead of 1?... Sales AND Reviews.

But if you want some definitions of "Dominate"...

"To control, govern, or rule by superior authority or power" - In other words... Win. At everything. Reviews, Sales, Popularity... You name it.
"To enjoy a commanding, controlling position in" - Sales... Reviews... Yeah.
"To overlook from a height" - In other words... Score/ Sell better.
"To have or exert strong authority or mastery." - Yeah... You get the idea.

Huh, really? he did compare GT5 prologue to a minigame. Its a good thing they want all the experience straight from the box. Its been in developement for about 4-5 years, maybe they made error in the start but its a good thing they are working longer to fix this. Alan Wake is a good example of the same thing. What hes saying is accurate but the way he is implying that they may be working on the PSP game instead of the PS3 game and the minigame make him sound like a dick. Also he didnt have to say anything against it, he could have simply answered that he thinks Halo reach will do better no matter what.

I agree that GT5 will dominate due to sales, but I've never seen such abuse of dictionary definitions. The first three are different contexts than the last, which is the correct one in this context. The first two refer to social hierarchy/authority, the third refers to literally viewing from above.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

GT5 is not a system seller, Halo: Reach is. Halo destroys all competition.

HALO:Reach isn't a system seller. If anyone was going to buy an Xbox360 for a HALO game, they would have already done so for HALO 3. If someone wants a 360 so much for HALO, surely 3 was the game?

Any main franchise Halo is a system seller. The side games aren't system sellers like the RTS 'Halo Wars' and 'ODST'. Reach is a main franchise game and will up the graphics and revamp the engine. The unveiling of Halo Reach is going to get the west pumped up like crazy for the game. There will be large 360 boosted numbers in december 2010.

You really think theres gonna be a large boost? Surely some people will buy a 360 for a new exclusive, but won't most halo fans have already gotten a 360 for halo 3, halo wars, or ODST? It's not gonna be that big system wise.

Who said only Halo fans would (if they haven't already) buy a 360 for Reach? Can't an FPS fan or just a shooting fan in general buy a 360 for Reach as well?

Well, wouldn't most FPS or shooter fans have already gotten a console then for Modern Warfare 1 or 2, or bioshock, or battle field, or any number of other FPS's? I'm just saying there is probably not 100's of thousands of people out there waiting for the next big Halo FPS to buy a 360.. they probably already have one.

I hate wading through all the PR crap in these kind of statements, the highlighting helped a lot. Thanks Jagged!

OT: I think Reach is going to be huge, but why would you want to say anything bad about GT5 unless you like egg on your face?
