Forums - Gaming - I think Nintendo and MS should do Wii and 360 redesigns

Carl2291, Seece is right in this case. The PS1, PS2, and PSP all had significant hardware issues. The PS1 had DRE and overheating issues. The PS2 had significant DRE issues. The PSP had dead pixel and misaligned button issues. If Sony can put out a more durable product like the PS3 after all of that, why couldn't a 360 redesign be more reliable. Especially when the original Xbox was more reliable than the PS1 and PS2.

Great post, didn't realise all those Sony consoles had issues, thought it was just the PS2!

I never knew that.

Were the problems still there with the "Slim" models?

The ps1 and psp issues were lesser in scope and are mostly ignored, but the fact does remain, ps2 > ps3 improved reliability...why can't 360?

Yeah i know that, but were the problems still with the console despite a "Slim" release?

Xbox 360? yes! Mainly because I want a new xbox. Wii? No! My Wii is doing fine...

The PS1 issues were significant. The PSP issues was resolved relatively quickly. The PS1 wasn't designed for extended use. Sony latter admitted that fact. They designed the system to be played for a couple hours at a time max. The system lacked the proper ventilation and it would overheat. The overheating issues were solved first but the DRE issues persisted until the PS One released.

With the position the wii is in, it doesnt it need one imo. On the other hand, the 360 needs one mainly because its still faulty, despite reducing heat emmisions. It could save them tons of money; like the way Sony did with the PS3, they NEEDED to reduce the manufactotring costs to keep from losing money and they did.

Wii is a solid piece of hardware. Small, efficient, and quiet. Nothing needs to be changed really. Most of the space is the CD Drive anyway..

X360 - I really think it needs some improvements. Better ventilation, a non-disc-killing CD drive and it could be smaller and nicer looking.

Which features can Nintendo add to the Wii? Seems to me like it already has everything it needs.

Backwards compatibility is in, storage is not a problem anymore with SDHC support. More USB ports aren't needed, it already has WiFi too.

So they could add an Ethernet port. Anything else?

Ethernet, DVD player, music playing, HDD? More media features like the DSi.

Wii's can play DVD's from what I hear, Nintendo hasn't enabled the feature though.

Wii can play DVDs with homebrew but that's a feature most people wouldn't know about.

Nintendo could just have a software update. Also, the media features you listed could be released by a software update. From what I see, the only problems Wii has can be fixed with software updates.
