Nintendo's primary advantage is in terms of size

Both sources are estimating

No, its primary advantage is resources. Nintendo has them, NPD has them. Vgchartz? Not so much.

VGChartz does have them, though I agree with you concerning the fact that resources, as a function of size, will be greater for Nintendo and to a lesser extent NPD.

As an NPD customer, Nintendo most likely cross checked their numbers with NPD's before publishing them because they really don't want to look like fools when NPD stuff is released...

As for the difference between US and America, it is usually 10% however as someone pointed out Black Friday is a US only event so you woudn't expect US sales to represent more than 90% of America's sales this week..

Actually its no longer just US, Canadian retailers do it now as well, to prevent people from crossing the border to shop

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Nintendo probably got this data from NPD ye know people

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

^No, Khuutra is right, Nintendo has a larger sample size to estimate from than VGC does

Are you doubting the numbers released by Nintendo ?

That is close to heresy for a Wii fanboy.

To the stake !!!!!!!!!!

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

This doesn't change or invalidate my point.

Vgchartz=guessing

Nintendo=estimates backed by the resources of a billion dollar company

See the difference?

Actually, I'd take Nintendo's word as gospel.

http://ign64.ign.com/articles/073/073628p1.html

Nintendo today announced the opening of siras.com, a new company subsidiary dedicated to helping retailers and manufactures face common problems associated with fraudulent returns, product tracking and inventory management... Electronic registration tracks a product's serial number at the point of sale...

In other words, assuming they kept the system up, they should have real-time tracking of all their retail sales.

I guess a YOY drop is inevitable at this point, which will cause some PR problems when NPD gets released. Investors were looking for YOY increases, since most of the year wasn't that great. Cammie Dunaway is trying to put out the fires already.

I guess since they haven't had a holiday well supplied, they wanted to see if they could retain some revenue by not offering deals, and hopefully demand would be high enough. Needless to say they've learned they're not doing enough.

NOE is probably getting all the credit right now, they're the new Nintendo overlords.

And have far more resources to accurately make those estimates....
