I only quoted Iphones sales, Ipod touch sales are nearly as big ....

37 millions Iphone + Ipod touch sold by end of Q1 2009. 

 

Basically combined you're looking at 40 millions+ of  Iphone+Ipod touch sold in 2009 by the end of the year...

 

trying to find the exact number by end of Q3...

 

Edit : can't find latest exact number, all Apple released is that in Q3 Ipod touch sales doubled compared to Q3 2008....

So far we have :

By end of 2008

-  17 millions Iphone sold

- around 12-13 million IPOD touch sold.

Total : around 30 millions

 

First 9 months of 2009 :

- 16.5 millions Iphones

- Estimate of around 12 and 16 millions Ipod Touch sold...

Total : 28.5 to 32 millions units

 

This does not include october-november-december 2009....

Iphone seeing a YoY 7% increase last quarter, Ipod Touch seeing a 100% YoY quarter increase...

 

Based on that estimate for end of the year are around 24 millions Iphone sold in 2009, and probably 22 millions or more Iphone touch.

so total btw 45 and 50 millions units in 2009. which should bring the worldwide total to little over 75 millions units...

 

By the end of 2010 it's fair to expect around 130 million units of Iphone+Ipod touch will have been sold.........

 

That is a tad faster than the DS.....

^Actually as of sept 2009 Apple had sold 20 million Ipod touches, it was launched in 2007, so its not 20 million in 2009, but 20 million over like 2 years

As for Iphone by Q2 2009 it was at 21.17 million since its also launch in 2007

so basically in 2 years Iphone and ipod touch have sold about 41 million plus

What you call Q2 is Apple fiscal Q2 and correspond to calendar Q1...

 

The number was quoted by Apple CFO to be 37 millions at the start of April 2009.

Apple reported they sold 5.2 millions Iphone alone in April-June so the total number Iphone +Ipod touch sure wasn't 41.17 millions units by end of June 2009 :P

the ipod touch figure is until September 2009, so its the most current financial

never mind found them, 5.2 in Q3 and 7.4 in Q4

so 12.6 million +41.17 means 53.77 million since 2007

The only thing we miss is Ipod touch sales over the last 2 quarters.
The onyl information Apple revealed at the end of last quarter was that Ipod touch sales were up 100% YoY in that quarter......

Last quarter ended in September, correct?  Well according to the Wikipedia page, its 20 million Ipod touches as of the end of September

It's meaningless to compare iPod Touch / iPhone sales with the DS.

Every single DS bought is used for gaming. The same cannot be said about Apple's products.

A better comparison would be to look at their software sales (if they were available).


Anyway... I'm still in shock how high the DS is, and how low the Wii is. It's too bad, since it's the Wii that's really in need of help - as if the DS needs to be even more successful than it already is...!
