I'm confused about something: to be racist, don't you have to dislike/hate a particular RACE?! O_o

The Japanese not liking Americans, which they all aren't that way, would mean what? Which race of Americans, which also consists of Japanese (Asian) people, do they hate?

If you said they have a particular prejudice, that sounds more like it, but what makes Americans any better? I ask this as an American. We have prejudices too, just like everybody else.

Racist on the other hand, consists of a particular race, which EVERY race has racist people as well.

Its not that they are racist because they arent........they are just nationalists.....they would far rather support their own home grown products than an "outsider's"....theres a word for it but it isnt racist.

Nationalists has rather negative connotations. They are patriotic, that's the word. Proud of their race.

To be patriotic is to be a nationalist....

No one called out the OP on his mathematical fallacy? Just because they both outsell each other by 77% in one region doesn't mean they're equal.

Let's say X360 sells 177k in America and PS3 sells 100K there. 77% more.
Let's say X360 sells 10k in Others and PS3 sells 17k. 77% more.

They both outsold each other by 77%, but they are definitely not equal.

In america the 360 outsold the PS3 by 77%

In others the PS3 outsold the 360 by 77%

So if you average it out the PS3 is = to the 360 in sales.

Now if you count Japan (where they dont buy western products because they are racist) the ps3 has a little lead obviously.

so in conclusion i think that the 100 dollar price cut had an almost = affect on the 360 as it did on the ps3 and that they both at this point, have an approximate = lifetime to sell (not counting the japaneese)..discuss

Or it could just be a huge coincidence?

For that matter, saying the Japanese are racist just because they don't like the 360 is about the dumbest thing you've ever said. And that's an accomplishment.

I mean, seriously. Who are they racist towards, Americans?

http://factsanddetails.com/japan.php?itemid=632&catid=18#

heres an article and in the middle it says japaneese people sometimes dont eat american food cause they say their intestines are better than americans. also, form personal experience my dad was researching and he said that there was a case where skis were made in swizerland and they pulled it off japaneese shelves because it "wasn't tested on japaneese soil" even though it was tested on swiz soil...

they are just corrupt people when it comes to selling foreign products...im sorry but thats the truth

Okay, but racist was entirely the wrong word. And you know it.

Xenophobic, if you will, but not racist. And there are still several very popular American products in Japan as well. The 360 not selling well in Japan is purely Microsoft's fault. I'm not saying it should be selling as well as the Wii or PS3, but its level of sales can only be blamed on its maker.

:s The Japanese aren't more nationalistic than the Americans, the only real difference is that the Americans have imposed their culture on everyone else and those who tries to keep their own values/roots are seen down upon as narrow minded nationalists. :p

its funny how racist people think everyone else is racist.

Xenophobia is far worse than racism.....racists hate/fear a particular race, religion etc. Xenophobics hate/fear everything that isnt like themselves.

The Japanese are definitely not xenophobics...

I was referring to xenophobia as fear or dislike of certain foreigners/foreign things, not everything that is foreign. And I'm not even suggesting that they are, just that it's a more accurate word.

A nationalist is a more extreme version of a patriot. The word "nationalist" conjures up images of constantly carring around your country's flag, and screaming "Praise *country*!" at everyone you meet, in my mind.

Patriot is a more...friendly term.

But they dont hate/dislike certain foreign things/foreigners.......that would definitely make them racists.

They just have this sense that they must support their own country's products before another......thats nationalism (or as kantor argues patriotism)

I would consider Americans to be Patriotic.....no matter what nationality you are over there your an american first...they have more pride in their own country then lets say...Canada(where I live). BUT this doesnt affect certain aspects of their lives like purchase decisions which is what the Japanese do.

I agree with you that whole "conjures up images" part about nationalism but it makes you wonder how close they are from the line between Patriotism and Nationalism...you could say they are Extremely strong Patriots or extremely weak nationalists.
