Forums - Gaming - Do Sony and Microsoft stand a chance?

@ OP - The PSwand launch lineup does look untreatening to the Wii, but to claim there is only 1 game for it is just plain wrong.

A number of games have been announced to include support for the Motion Controller, including:[17]
Ape Escape (working title)
Echochrome 2 (working title)
Eccentric Slider (working title)
Sing and Draw (working title)
Champions of Time (working title)
Motion Party (working title)
Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition[23]
The Shoot (working title)
Tower (working title)
Under Siege[24]
In addition, support for the Motion Controller will be added through software updates to various other titles, such as LittleBigPlanet,[25] Pain, Flower, Hustle Kings, High Velocity Bowling, and EyePet.[17]

9 games designed around the PSwand
1 game is having a new release for it
6 games are having support patched in

The number of games is not the problem. 17 at launch sure beats WM+, which had about 5 WM+ capable games when WSR launched.

The problem is that of the 17 games, 8 are just ports of dual analogue games. they are slightly easier to control than before, but they don't offer gameplay experiences that were unavailable with conventional controls.

The other 9 games we know little about. And that is part of the problem. There is no big exciting software that people are getting excited about.

All of those games except RE5 Gold are also PSN titles, further limiting their potential audience.  They're not all launch titles either.

you realize there is no real "war" ?
Nintendo makes most of their money from device sales (Wii and the wii fit device ) and mostly third party games,
look at the game sales except the first few ones , wii is not really a good platform for games, you can at best get 4 million, unless you "innovate" how wii fit did, and the attach rate is rather low, but you can consider they did a good job.
now the real "war" is between microsoft and sony, but sony did push bluray thanks to ps3 with will bring them lots of cash, now they are pushing ps3 as well, and since it has no piracy and probably won't have any for at least 2 years they will milk it better than microsoft :)

I'm not sure if I read your post correctly, but are you saying Nintendo doesn't make much money on their 1st party software?

in answer to the thread title.. i reckon so. so many people have a PS3 or a 360, all it takes is the promise of one good game.. then someone buys it "just to see", then word of mouth gets around.. then before you know it, everyone is bigging up the Wand/Natal of course there will be your bog-standard novelty crap released, but i think the fact that Sony, for instance, are said to have announced only one game with Wand compatibility is a good thing... different gamers want different things, so it looks to me like Sony will be releasing more standard-controller games. Yay XD

Yea also dont forget about the internet or youtube, people will be raving and foaming at the mouth lol, unless it totally sucks monkey ballz hmm, which probably wont be the case. Anyhoo, Sony has 2 games, you forgot about RE5 alternate edition.

Judging by your preference for standard controller, you have zero interest in Natal, or secretly excited? ^_^

i'm interested to see what it'll be like, i think it could do really great things for gaming.. (one step closer to my dream of ultimate virtual reality XD) but i know if i don't like it that there are still going to be standard-controller games too ^__^ its a win-win situation, really :D

No. And it's interesting how you describe the Wand as a "crappy dog toy", considering it does EXACTLY THE SAME THING as the Wiimote, and then some more.

You should replace GOW III with GT5 in your OP. One has the potential to sell 2-3m the other possibly 10m.

Not that it really matters, the games aren't competing across platfroms.

Next year will see the launch of the Wand and Natal but do either controller methods actually stand a chance in the face of Nintendo's brute force? Next year its WiiMotionPlus/VitalitySensor V.S Natal and Sony's crappy wand toy. Whether its an amazing new camera or what looks like a plastic dog toy Sony and Microsoft are getting ready to unleash casual hell, at least they think they are. So lets look at what the big three have in store for next year.

So their you have it all three companies known 2010 line-ups. Can Sony's God Of War and Microsoft Halo Reach stand a chance against the likes of Link Mario and Kirby?

Is this not instigating a flame war? You pose a valid question just be unbiased about it. No, neither motion technology will pose a threat to Nintendo. They will have little to no impact. Microsoft can hype it as much as they want, but unless they release some great games with it, it is sure to flop. I don't even want to discuss Sony's tech - but, same story with it.

they stand a chance on the other markets lol or against each other...

Calm down... You're bias is showing...

4 ≈ One

Who's going to provide the software needed to sell this add on for Natal/Wand? Are they going to rely on third parties? Good luck with that one.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I dont think either natal or pswand will be too much of a threat to nintendo.
