And now they're losing hundreds of millions of dollars.

When you're a company the size of EA or Activision, it's in your best interest to be an industry whore. EA strayed away from that, and now they're hurting. Activision is embracing that, and now they're doing wonderfully.

they lost millions because they milked their games way too much , that people stopped caring about them.

same thing happened to Guitar Hero.

WRONG!

They lost millions because they tried to make new, successful IPs, and they failed miserably.

Mirror's Edge and Dead Space were big failures for them. I expect Brutal Legend to also lose them money. Their attempts at new IPs on HD consoles haven't exactly lit up the sales world, and since they're such an immense company, they've grown to rely heavily on massive profits. And they're not getting these massive profits now. I'm willing to bet you that Madden NFL 2010 and Fifa 2010 are making EA way more money than any new IP they've released this generation. And Activision's milking of Guitar Hero and Call of Duty has made them filthy rich.

Nintendo's the only company that can really produce a huge variety of great games and still be really successful. And that's because they're Nintendo. But for everyone else, they might have to be a bit more shameful to get profits.

My Spidey Sense tells me that no one cares

Your spidey sense would have been more useful when it was common to talk about how EA no longer was the worst company in the business. Last year

EA are losing money because they have been a bloated and inefficient company for some time. Riccitello is changing that now

Here's a nice article on the subject: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/stark-contrasts-article

They acquired Bioware and so far haven't managed to screw them up at all as evidenced by Dragon Age. They're not so bad now.

is that why they are making sequels?

its not a failure if it have a big fanbase and is making a sequel, these games still getting legs.

plus a million is not a failure.

EA strayed away from it because they had no choice. The franchises they were milking were dying.

What do you think will happen with Activision once Guitar Hero (slowly fading) and Call of Duty (at its peak, give it time) decline? Once the well is dry, one must move elsewhere. If they cannot come up with another hit soon (and instead spend all their time whoring GH and CoD), their fall is inevitable.

Not entirely true as we don't know how much of an effect restructuring and management changes have had to the financials. Both Dead Space and Mirror's Edge were sucessful enough to warrant sequels so they couldn't have failed THAT badly. They've still got a lot of sports franchises not to mention Bioware making good quality games that sell well. I expect we'll see them making profit again quite soon.

Strangely they blamed their poor last quater results on Wii games not selling well enough, so maybe they need to bring out better quality shovelware, lol.

I will always HATE EA for them getting the nfl license and ruining my favorite sport game in nfl2k series.......

shows them how much scared they are and what they have to do to win .... they dont produce quality they just buy the licenses : ) to make people get there games
