And now they're losing hundreds of millions of dollars.

When you're a company the size of EA or Activision, it's in your best interest to be an industry whore. EA strayed away from that, and now they're hurting. Activision is embracing that, and now they're doing wonderfully.

they lost millions because they milked their games way too much , that people stopped caring about them.

same thing happened to Guitar Hero.

WRONG!

They lost millions because they tried to make new, successful IPs, and they failed miserably.

Mirror's Edge and Dead Space were big failures for them. I expect Brutal Legend to also lose them money. Their attempts at new IPs on HD consoles haven't exactly lit up the sales world, and since they're such an immense company, they've grown to rely heavily on massive profits. And they're not getting these massive profits now. I'm willing to bet you that Madden NFL 2010 and Fifa 2010 are making EA way more money than any new IP they've released this generation. And Activision's milking of Guitar Hero and Call of Duty has made them filthy rich.

Nintendo's the only company that can really produce a huge variety of great games and still be really successful. And that's because they're Nintendo. But for everyone else, they might have to be a bit more shameful to get profits.
