Forums - Nintendo - I honestly think Sony's Wand is a bigger threat to Nintendo than Natal

I agree with NiKKoM; WiiHD would kill and scare the shit out of Sony and MS while Nintendo, sure it would be a threat but not as big so what Nintendo is gonna do is bring out Zelda Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 3 months from each other and in those 3 months Wand should have released...That will put off everyone who really wants a Zelda hello who doesn't like Zelda nad SMG2 is a pur game....so that should kill wand sales

I don't know if anyone's said this yet, but the people who should be most excited about the Sony wand is the 3rd party Wii developers. All of those games have a second chance at life on the PS3 with (hopefully) improved graphics. It's a shame that quality 3rd party titles on the Wii get virtually ignored.

Often the reason a third party Wii game is a third party Wii game is because they're developed by smaller, less experienced teams that can't accustomed to HD hardware.  In short, I don't see it happening.

Has anyone else noticed how (pretty much) every major publisher has tried to clone a Guitar Hero/Rockband, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Brain Training, Nintendogs, or any other unconventional game and rarely ever are as successful as the original?

In my mind, the reason for this is that the follow-up products tend to be created because a company saw the success of the original game and still hasn't seen the reason why it needed to exist. In general, this means that the company has a blind-spot (or a dead-ear) to what the current customers wanted, and it means that their efforts to improve the product tend to be focused on features or values that are unimportant to capturing these customers.

Until we see the software that Microsoft and Sony are going to produce I would be really skeptical of them understanding a market that they have ignored for so long ...

I stongly agree with this.

Rockband came after and because of GH success. Thus if all Sony and Mircosoft simply trying to copy the Wii then it will not be a huge success but if like Rockband they add on to what already been proven to be successful  then both has a possiblity of being a huge success. So far it's seems both of them are attempting to go step farther than the wii-mote.

Difference though is Rock band may have had similar roots to GH, but it made what was previously a solo experience into a group/social experience, NATAL and the Sony wand haven't shown anything that creates an experience that people want that the Wii isn't giving

Like I wrote  Rockband took GH success and added to the experience.

And NATAL and the wand don't, the jump from GH to RB was about making solo to social, NATAL and the Wand don't do anything like that, Wii is extremely social already

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Natal will be more of a threat, and even then it will do very little to Nintendo.

Does anyone here take into account that over 40% of the Wii user base has a balance board? I wonder how Natal and the Sony Wand will capture that audience.

playing re5 with the wand and the game pad is ridiculously hard and uncomfortable.

IIRC GH was two player before RB. Tell me why Natal and wand can't be social especially the wand since this is the whole reason for the PS eye to track colors instead of IR light? Again I can see a Natal dancing game that could be  very social. As afr how much Sony or Mircosoft will actually push these we have to wait and see.

For example I see Natal can take something like Wii fit to another level including dancing leasons. Imagine a Natal dancing game where you actually perform the moves instead of stepping on a pad.

Except that Guitar Hero I and Guitar Hero II were developed for Activision by Harmonix, and then Harmonix developed Rockband I and Rockband II for EA ...

GH two player was competitive, not cooperative, RB was cooperative

They may be social, but how is that anything over the Wii?  The Wii has social already, just a graphical improvement and better motion tracking won't sell to people, most won't know and won't care, they have to give an experience not found on the Wii that people want, so far I see nothing that indicates they have that
