Forums - Sales - Super Mario Galaxy is a failure and Nintendo is to blame

No way, Galaxy wasn't as good as sunshine ... maybe im saying that because i hate playing mario galaxy with the wii mote and nunchuck ... i think it would have sold more if you could play with the gamecube controller

Sega For Life - Gaming Died When Sega Died ... Sega <3

The nintendo before - ' wii release ' <3
Sega before ' Software Only ' <3

Anti M$ (Therefore anti 360) - im making it official ... Go play your meaningless FPS Games ...

First time I've ever heard someone prefer Sunshine to Galaxy.

I guess there's a first time for everything.

I couldn't focus on the OP, because your avatar is distracting me.

They really changed Kim Possible's look...

I was hoping you'd get to making this thread sooner or later.

You do have a few good points, I admit. I can't relate, because I am a seasoned gamer and am used to cutscenes and the like, but newer gamers may well have been scared off by the slow start in Galaxy. Not a bad thread.

@darthdevidem01, that's impossible, since Super Mario 64 is the best game of all time.

EDIT: I realize that this may well be a joke thread, and if so, I have been had. I really can't tell with Rol most of the time.

thats impossible, since MGS4 is the best movie of all time.

seriously?

Yeah SMG > SM64 for me

Fixed your post ;)

No thats Star Wars Episode 3!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I'm an experienced gamer, and those cutscenes turn me off. I'm not sure if it's because of their existence, or because they almost universally suck. And I'm not just talking about Nintendo's games here.

Hmm. It really depends a lot for me, in some games I absolutely love them and in some other games they annoy me to no end. In Nintendo games I usually enjoy them fine, mostly because they're pretty short and to-the-point for the most part, so even if I don't like them they'll be over soon.

I guess my problem is that they're usually unnecessary in Nintendo's games (and really unnecessary in other games, which shall remain unnamed ).

Wow, somebody else liked that movie?

It's not the best Star Wars, though.

Did you just quote me before I posted? That was freaky.

I assume you're not objecting to 5 and 6 being on the top, but to the 3 > 4. Well, it was! 4's most advanced special effects were puppets dangling from a piece of string. Yoda looked like a childrens' toy. It's for the technology that I loved Star Wars episode 3. The story wasn't bad either, but even 1997's technology couldn't do justice to Star Wars.

Oddly enough, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi didn't seem to suffer from that problem of appearing to be a Sci-Fi puppet show. Not that 4 was bad, mind you. Still one of my favourite movies. My hate is reserved for Star Wars 2 with its emo Anakin.

Miyamoto has said Galaxy 2 will have less story and has also said he didn't want so much story within the first Galaxy (the team at EAD Tokyo fought for it).

I really didn't see the story and cut scenes as that much of a problem. Maybe this is because I played Super Paper Mario, so I know what true cut scene pain consists of.

8 million is certainly not failure status, but I would use the following reasons for why it didn't break 10m:

1. It's 3d. Not only that, but it's wonky, upside-down, nausea-inducing 3d.

2. It wasn't a launch title, was never bundled, and hasn't really been the main reason to buy a Wii (at least for non-gamers, Wii Sports and Wii Fit are definitely the major games).

3. Too cute and kiddy, at least with marketing. Mario Kart Wii was brilliant because it was in a plain white box with the only colors being Mario and Luigi on the cover. It was able to appeal to adult gamers as well as children. Mario Galaxy had a cute yellow luma on the box with lots of sparkles and colors.

4. Despite it appealing to kids, it wasn't a kid-friendly game. The gameplay and controls are too complex. At least for the kids that I tried showing this game to, they just couldn't get the 3d, planet-spinning gameplay.

It was my favorite actually...

Oh, and Rol, switch back to your old avatar.

Blasphemy! Go watch The Empire Strikes Back until you cry from the awesomeness.

Only 35 games have broken 10 million.
25 of those were made by Nintendo.
They get about 1 per year. (Although it would be more accurate to say that during the NES/GB days they got 1-3 per year, and during the Wii/DS days they get 1-3 per year.)
2007 had Wii Play come to America and Wii Fit come to Japan. They'd already filled their quota of insanely successful games.
