9-7 has to be the hardest course in the game, only one that gave me a lot of trouble.

I am honestly amazed at how often I see this. What does it say about me that I found this one relatively easy, but 9-6 to be unbelievably hard?

My guess is that you probably blaze through levels fairly quickly, while most of us seem to take it more cautiously the first time around. Speed and momentum help on 9-7, but patience is the watchword on 9-6.

I am wondering one thing though. All people seem to agree that this is great and feels on par with SMB3 and SMW, while the DS game was more meh and definitely not the same as these old classics. I feel exactly the same but I wonder what the reason is. Has anybody figured that out?

My guess is it has to do with passion and care. I think Nintendo likely paid much less attention to the DS game than it did to the Wii one. They certainly highlighted the Wii one much, much more.

That seems like a pretty good example, and fits with the advice I give for 9-7. It is torture trying to wait for all the platforms to be in the right spot, and without knowing what comes next you can't blitz level 9-6.

I also agree on the second part. NSMB DS just didn't feel like an important project. The level design was pretty blah, and the power-up system was not well thought out. The megamushroom not making it back for the sequel makes me think the designers agree with me on that one.

I'm thinking the Penguin Suit could be a big help on 9-7, much like how the Propeller suit pretty much broke 9-1. Though from my limited experience with trying 9-7, it does seem like momentum is important. The longer you wait, the more precarious your position becomes.

I had to rely on pure luck to get some of those world 7 coins. 2nd coin on 7-3 i found by randomly jumping and finding the invisible block that spawns the vine that goes up to where the coin is, and the 3rd coin in 7's Ghost House i really agonized over, because i was unaware the level had a hidden exit, and i happened to see the boxing ghost punch through what appeared to be solid wall at a point

2nd coin in Ludwig's castle was bad, too. Hiding it under a warp-pipe that was itself hidden in the cloudy fringes was devious of them

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well beat the game, going on to World 9 now. Just glad I don't have to go back and get star coins... just beat the first two stages and from what I am seeing, SMW Star world was much harder.

Well games completely finished (as said per the game, 5 Stars on save)

9-6 and 9-7 weren't that difficult, I definitely found SMW end stages much more difficult.

Star World? Those stages are very easy... maybe you were talking about the Special World, that was the hard one!

Where the hell is the first star coin in level 3-3?

please remember to blank out spoilers as this game hasn't been out long and I'm sure some people like me haven't gotten all the secrets yet.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Then you don't remember Secret Star Road that well. Most of the levels were very easy. All but maybe one or two were completely trivialized by the ever present Cape too. Only Secret Star Road 2 was more difficult. The rest were comparable or easier.

Ah, sorry.

Though what i said wasn't too too bad. Didn't enumerate where specifically in those stages it would be. But i'll be more careful

Yeh now that i look back I realize that they were very comparable.  Star Road 2, was the one with the inflatable mario right? Having to navigate as a blimp through tight spaces?
