Forums - General Discussion - Half of U.S. kids will get food stamps - SO SAD

There are so many flaws in the food stamps its unbelivable.

Firstly, im guessing its calculated on either how much money you earn or how much money you have?

There is no way that the USA Government can track what people buy and therefore, people who have a luxurious lifestyle (Games consoles) will recieve food stamps. Wheras, a family which earns and have the same amount of money, who are (sensible/prioritse) will not recieve food stamps (benefits)

I guess its better than the benefit system in the UK. At least people have to buy food with them rather than some people in the UK who might possibly buy Alcohol and cigarretes.

Here we go with the welfare mothers in fur coats riding in cadillacs again...the situations you mention are a small percentage of people who get food stamps. The system isn't perfect, but no system is.You think people are happy about being on food stamps?

Yet some people will tell you that these people should be paying more in taxes and the rich should pay less, so it's 'fair' or a flat tax as it's called.

I don't think many people who are for a flat tax are for anyone paying higher taxes ... Now if you want to see the value of government run social programs compared to lower taxes you should compare and contrast how well off people are in California and Texas.

Well off by what standard? If you mean the state is in debt I don't deny that but so is the federal government.

Terrible result of the Democrats continuing to push welfare and not advancement in minority and poor communities. A shame.

I doubt you could make a strong argument that people are better off in California ...

I'm pretty sure the statistic wouldn't have been drastically different a year ago. But I guess that's the benefit of two party politics, you always have some one else to blame. Over half of americans actually want a third party now just because the first two can't get anything done other than line their own pockets. I guess then we'll have at least two parties to blame.

How do you advance poor and minority communites? By the way the majority of people on Welfare are white so let's get rid of that myth right there.

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,974473,00.html

The numbers go like this: 61% of the population receiving welfare, listed as "means-tested cash assistance" by the Census Bureau, is identified as white, while only 33% is identified as black.

How about California has an unemployment rate that is over 12%, and 33% of employers expect to lay people off in 2010?

What about prisons becomming so over-crowded that California is being forced to release prisoners?

California has become a nightmare of increasing government taking creating higher deficits and higher taxes, which forces productive individuals and companies out of the state, which pushes the government to have higher deficits and higher taxes.

I don't live in either state, but California is a high profile disaster that is becomming well known around the world.
