I don't think many people who are for a flat tax are for anyone paying higher taxes ... Now if you want to see the value of government run social programs compared to lower taxes you should compare and contrast how well off people are in California and Texas.

Well off by what standard? If you mean the state is in debt I don't deny that but so is the federal government.

I doubt you could make a strong argument that people are better off in California ...
