Forums - Sony - Insomniac: Graphics>Framerate, our future games will probably not be 60 fps

I'm in the boat that votes for the rocksteady framerate. Both Killzone 2 and inFAMOUS did a bad job with making the framerate consistent, and that is the only thing I really want rectified with their respective sequels. No need to improve the graphics whatsoever, just smooth out the framerate to Uncharted 2-steadiness!

Gimme 60fps locked anyday (i.e. FZero) and work the gfx around that.

Note NTSC TVs at the time only displayed 30 frames per second and PAL TVs only 25 frames per second.

The PAL TV standard was considered to be of higher quality as content was usually 24 frames per second (max), so no real world gains, but the higher resolution had a far more significant impact on image quality (you would have noticed if visiting Europe or vice versa).

Killzone 2 had a very steady framerate, except for at checkpoints when the game saved data (the less busy parts of the game). I agree, it would be great if the devs make everything more seamless for Killzone 3 similar to Uncharted 2.

Sounds like a cop out on Insomniac's part. Cutting the framerate from 60fp to 30fps is an easy way to increase graphical fidelity.

We are all gamers here on vg charts. Has any of you's picked up a game once and said. Wow I'm not buy this because its not 60 FPS. Thats the last thing I look for. Look at the framerate issues Fallout 3 has and other great games out there. The truth about this is, If you ask someone about frame rate of course They are going to say it matters because the game runs smoother. But nobody out there looks for what framerate when buying a game.

Personally, I felt I had an easy time in getting the framerate to drop (however slight), and I wish it would have been more steady than that. But still, inFAMOUS is by far the bigger culprit.

As long as it remains steady it doesn't really matter if its at 60 or 30fps. A good looking game with a steady frame rate is all I ask.

Which is hilarious to me because framerate has pretty big effects on gameplay itself, far more than graphics ever could.

I'd prefer Uncharted 2 graphics in 30FPS to ACiT graphics in 60FPS.

30 is fine. 60 is ideal, but not if you have to sacrifice graphical quality for it.

Can you really call it a cop out if they openly acknowledge that that's what they're doing? One of the reasons I respect this post is that they say, quite honestly, that they're willing to sacrifice framerate to make things look better, and that they're doing this because their polling data says that more people prefer prettier graphics than rock solid performance. They didn't hem and haw, or try to justify it for any other reason.
