Forums - Sales - Hmm PS3 has sold 4 million more then 360 had last year.

I have to compare this sort of trend analysis to focusing on the kissing scene near the end of the Princess Bride movie and coming to the conclusion that it must have been based on a "kissing book".

There are just too many variables that are different for each console to try and do zoomed-in comparisons like this.

Congratulation Sony for beating your competition by 4 million using this method, you only lost 30-40% marketshare in the process, almost ruined your image and help introduce a couple of the worse PR statements I have ever heard. All in all I am impressed.

Anyyways enough pointing out the obvious, back to playing Uncharted 2.

Hit it right in the head. But congrats SONY. After beating MS by 100,000,000 consoles your beating MS by 4,000,000 on a aligned launch and not to mention not earning a single penny with the PS3. But hey its time to PARTY!!!

Just wait till next gen when Google has gobbled up all of MS's other revenue streams so MS can't afford to subsidize the XBOX brand's loses anymore and they release their inferior product at a higher price and lose all of their marketshare back to the Playstation.

If you wanna do aligned launches 360 still has out sold the PS3, Start the day when PS3 launched and compare the numbers, im not talking the 5 million gap, i mean those weeks numbers, the 360 is STILL in the lead.

Why is this thread even open.

@Carl

Yeah but its not a true Xbox 360, unless your saying

HD movies, built in wifi and HDD are not needed, but you wouldnt be saying that would you :)

It's not a fake Xbox 360.

And it doesn't matter if they are needed or not. I can buy an Xbox 360 for $199.

Okie. So atleast you admit the PS3 has been a failure when compared to the PS2.

If we are talking home consoles... Everything but the Wii is a failure when compared to the PS2.

@Carl

The Gamecube didnt sell 150 million consoles, Nintendo didnt say that people will buy a $600 console with no games.

We are talking based on the companies previous iteration of their consoles. So the Wii and the 360 are not failures

Whine as much as you want at the OP

but it makes a CLEAR point in terms of console "Purchase intent"

PS3 has sold 4 million greater than 360 in the same amount of time despite being for almost double the price for all those years.

USe the data & see what it can show us, everything doesn't need to be Black or WHite.....grey is a colour too!

You forget that if you are aligning the time to match, you also have to align the situational factors that were around at that time. When the 360 was in it's third year at this time, it's 120GB model was $400. In the PS3's third year at this time, the PS3 is $300 across the board. So aligning the prices along with the time shows us the PS3 is the cheaper console for those looking for an equivalent HD spaced model.

You see. Fudging everything is fun and accurate.

For arguments sake

THe point is that the gap has been increasing even when PS3 was $599/$499 accross the board.

Yeah its been 2 months since its $299 accross the board, what about before that?

It was costlier accross the board

Also in its 3rd year (2008) the cheapest 360 SKU was at $199 in October, while the cheapest PS3 SKU was at $399

There are too many factors in consideration, but ON AVERAGE the price of the PS3 was far higher in those 3 years.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

What are you talking about?

@Dark Chaos.

I see, but the point still stands. When compared to the PS2... The Wii is the only console that can match or surpass it. Everything else is a failure.
