Is it really a win for Microsoft if at the end they have to bring the Arcade down to $100 to guarantee a win? I don't think that would look too good to their investors.

Nintendo didn't lower their price in response to the PS3 slim, they lowered it in response to slowing sales and the concern that they wouldn't hit their targets, that was well before the PS3 slim was announced, in fact slim sales didn't affect the Wii at all, Wii kept selling around 180-190K a week
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

It is in the US. Check the numbers, 360 outsold the PS3 in the US once again. Sure Others and Japan are the PS3's for now, but these US is untouchable by Sony. |
Others is a bigger market then the US and currently PS3 is dominating others. I don't see the PS3 slowing down until 360 does something big.

Others and Japan combined aren't nearly half as important as the US for things that matter to gamers, namely games.

That statement is only true for the 360.
Everything else, Others + Japan > America

I quite agree, Wii and PS3 look almost independent, Wii didn't fall from its previous average when PS3 Slim was released and PS3 even managed to have a small increase, due to a positive balance between normal fall after launch spike and boost from game release, even the same week Wii had its cut. It's quite likely Wii and PS3 are seen as products different enough to not really compete directly.

What's really funny, is that most people thougth it would be below 175k right now, heck... People thought it would be there on its 3rd week after the pricecut. And look what happened there. PS3 Q1/Q2 lineup of games has enough quality and selling potential to keep sales up. There is no reason why games like Final Fantasy 13, God of War 3 and most of all Gran Turismo 5 can't provide boost's good enough to keep it in the ~200k range. |
I guess we'll see. But I highly doubt anything other than FF in Japan will have much affect on console sales for more than a week or two.

Do you mean that Final Fantasy 13 in Japan is the only system seller PS3 has left WW? Or only for Japan?

I mean it's the only major system seller. Other games may boost it for a week or two, but FF in Japan is the only thing left that will make a huge boost for any console.
