Gordon Freeman? Really? Not saying he isn't an awesome character, but he's definitely not top tier in terms of overall popularity.

Is this a joke? Gordon Freeman is easily one of the most popular videogame characters. Easily more popular than Link, Snake and Master Chief.

When people even in this thread are going who is Gordon Freeman, you know that is a clear sign. Next thing you know you will say World of Warcraft is bigger than Pokemon.

Shio is wrong. Way more people know about master chief than Gordon Freeman... non gamers and even some gamers dont know gordon exists... while tons of non gamers know who master chief is...

Half Life 1 has sold over 10 Million copies, that is without counting Steam sales.

Half Life 2 had sold way over 6.5 Million copies, again without Steam sales.

The Orange Box has sold over 3 Million copies at retail since 2007.

Don't underestimate the popularity of Gordon.

No Halo, Zelda or Metal Gear Solid game has ever sold as much as either Half-Life 1 and 2. What does that tell you? The fact that Freeman already won against Link and Snake in this Gamespot character contest further proves it, especially considering Gamespot is pretty much a console-centric gaming website, and only available in english language (and US and UK are both very console-centric markets).

And yes, World of Warcraft is bigger than Pokemon... WoW makes over $1 billion every year, which would equate to dozens of millions of units sold every year, if we changed the subscription money into actual unit sales.
