"we're very profit driven, we're interested in return on investment in a fairly short period of time."

So is Microsoft Tretton, and it's worked, the 360 hardware started making a profit from 2007.

O Rly?  Where'd you read this?  Can I have a link from a respected source?  The only things I've read lately are that they lose money on every console, just like SONY.  I have to call bull shit.

http://www.techspot.com/news/23612-microsoft-makes-tiny-profit-on-xbox-360-hardware.html

And that's from 2006..do I still think that article is accurate?  Not for a moment.  The price and package inclusions has changed quite a bit since then, so if you find one from 2009, let me know.  Otherwise, I still have to call bull shit.

No of course you don't whatever I came up with you would refute why did I even bother! Use common sense

No, if you came up with something recent, I wouldn't refute.  That's 3 years old, and as I said, a lot has changed since then.  You seem top think I have some bias against MS - no, I just have bias against their games.  I have a 360 and use it more than my PS3.  I happen to think half of their exclusives are garbage, but that's an argument for another time - people like you simply take that to mean I hate MS.  You're wrong.

Yeah sorry, I don't believe there is a conspiracy that everyone hates Microsoft blah blah, but I don't believe you

There are sources that say they're making a profit, just go to google.

I don't like this quote. I like the "still enjoyable after 20 years" part, but there is just something about it.

Am I being paranoid?

I LOVE ICELAND!

@Seece

Mmk=P I'm just going off the most recent reports I remember hearing on here. My memory isn't the best though and no, I can't provide any more links that say they're nonprofitable within the past 3 years than you can provide saying that they are profitable=P

I guess we'll just agree to disagree=P

Either way it doesn't really matter, imo. Selling nonprofitable hardware is a bigger hit to SONY right now than it ever will be to MS.

Sony's people are the worst ever.

Jack Trenton is the greatest god damn pr man I have ever seen.

Everything Jack Trenton and Kaz Hirai say has some karmatic attachment that bites them in the ass. The funny part is that they are straight faced like it never happened, yet inside they hurt so. :)

lol funny since both Sony AND MS are losing cash in some way shape or form this gen. Ninty on the other hand... they don't know the meaning of "No profit." but then again there 3rd party support this gen is far from stellar.

In conclusion, i just repeated what almost everyone in this thread said eh?

You guys realize that losing a small amount of money on console sales, and making it up with accessories and software is kinda the whole point, right?

Consoles are awesome computing devices, for the price. That's the idea. Get the people to buy your hardware for dirt cheap, then sell them software (and accessories, which is the Wii's true calling) to make a profit.

You guys could argue this until the end of every console generation ever to be, because it'll always be the case (except for Nintendo, of course, who smartly manages to sell substandard hardware for profit).

If MS was making money on 360 hardware, there would be a price cut, or bundle/value deals.

If Sony was making money on PS3 hardware, there would be a price cut, or bundle/value deals.

If Nintendo was making money on Wii hardware... there would be money printing... oh wait.

@Procrastinato: Except that the idea of console hardware have always been selling substandard hardware at profit, until PS2, that was substandard hardware sold at loss.

The real profits come from the software, that's where you're right.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Who wouldn't want to be able to afford to lose a billion dollars every year with no real consequences? Microsoft loses money on gaming and it doesn't bother them at all, and why should it? It's not like they don't make $8-10 billion of profit every year. Sony loses money on gaming and suddenly their entire company is in a financial crisis, with thousands of people losing their jobs because of it (meanwhile, Microsoft cuts jobs even though profits remain high, thanks for helping the American economy MS

I just don't understand why Microsoft, as a company, doesn't care to lose money on the gaming division. I understand that it won't have any consequences, but still... Why would you keep supporting a division that loses money?
