Forums - Sony - I nearly got a heart attack ! Crazy YLOD scare....

So i was playing inFAMOUS this morning...boss battle against Alden on Hard difficulty and my game froze and became pixelated. I thought it was no biggie since only 60GB PS3s mostly get YLOD nnot 40gb ones right ? No. I was very wrong...

I ejected the disc as I couldn't turn my PS3 off and turned it off from the back.I switched it on from the back again...the red light showing the PS3 was on standby mode was blinking...i turned it on and the blinking red light turned yellow.... after screaming like a little girl (ok, maybe not) i quickly turned it off from the back again.

with much hesitation i turned the ps3 on again..and everything was normal. i decided to turn it off and let it rest so i chose "Turn off system" from the XMB but the "Yes" or "No" to confirm switching the PS3 didn't appear. So i turned it off from the back AGAIN and restarted it...i quickly backed up my PS3 onto a flash drive and haven't touched it since.....I did vacuum clean it though..

Anyone else had YLOD with 40GB PS3s ?

It has been known to happen, I guess this just goes to show that no console is impervious. But we've been over this fact several times. PS3 fanboys trying to deflect claims like these as "lies" or "misdirections" 360 fanboys will fap over another PS3 getting YLOD. And the next round will start.
Anyway, try booting the system up and see what happens, if it is still under warranty, you have nothing to fear. If it isn't, well, it does you no good sitting there turned off.

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

i had the same exact thing happen to me with the same game.

i just rod on the train tracks and it suddenly froze with my controller vibrating still, i just reseted it (it toke a while holding the reset button) but it turned off but my controller is still vibrating, so i turned it back on and turned the controller off and here i am

i wouldn't freak out if i had any problem i'll just go fix it the next morning.

oh and my ps3 is also 40 GB , i think 3.0 FW has also effected this game. don't take my word on it though, i haven't touched the ps3 in awhile.

It burns burns burns, the light of yellow..

I have had some pip...PIPIPI things during games...And it froze few time in Resistance 2.

I used to keep my PS3 in a cabinet with like no ventilation ON for days at a time and nothing happened to it. What the hell do you people DO to your consoles? Go swimming with them?

@OP The yellow light means any kind of hardware malfunction, NOT JUST the death of the board or some kind of ultimatum. Your hard-drive could be faulty. Look it up on some forums (not here), and learn more about it.

Well, first of all... When it froze you shouldn't have turned it off from the back. You NEVER DO THAT WITHOUT TRYING TO HOLD DOWN THE REGULAR POWER BUTTON FIRST. Even if it takes 10 seconds.

Second, like Magnific0 says, it's not always a sign of a doomed system.

Third, I would scream like a girl too.

Its going to break again eventually, I would get all your saves and back them up, and when you have the money get a SLIM with gaurantee.

well I've had my 60 gb for about 2 years now and I haven't had any major problems with it, and haven't expirienced any problem yet with the 3.00 firmware.

I don't want anything to happen to my PS3 since 60 gb's are somewhat hard to come by these days
