Are these preorders from the customer or the stores?

I really only expect about 2 million give or take a couple 100K.

I simply don't belive it will sell more than Halo 3 and twice as much as Gears of War.

We can use Gow as example here:

Gow 1 sold 910k first week and 5,90M total so far

Gow 2 which enjoyed same kind of fame from succesfull part one as MW2 does sold 1,945M first week and 5,14M so far

Considering that MW1 had 1041k first week and 7,71M total sales i don't see MW2 selling more than 3M first week and my resonable prediction would be 2500k for first week.


you have got your point, but simply looking at the numbers... it is very hard to tell, but this will be one of the best things to look out for this year.

Could it be that VGC is way off with the pre-orders?

I don't trust preorder number from any source after last year.

I think it was LBP which was said to have 1,4M preorders.

This is about consumers. At least that is what VGC tracks.

For example Bungie stated more than 1 million preorders 3 weeks ago. Today, VGC has it at 900k I think.

Halo 3 may be hard to beat but there are so many more 360s in houses now than compared to 2007. The new CoD has the advantage.

If MW2 was exclusive to 360, I think it most certainly can beat Halo 3.

But given that it's multiplatform, I doubt it.

I think halo 3 had 4 million preorder WW for 12M xbox 360 owners
maybe MW2 can beat halo 3 first week but only because there 3 time more xbox 360 owners than at halo 3 release
and even if it's beat halo 3 first week sales it will not be impressive has halo 3 first week

ps3-44.5 - 46m
halo reach will be the highest selling exclusive of 2010
xbox 360 will do is first million selling week in december 
xbox 360 price will drop arcade - 179$  elite - 249$  and will be bundled with natal

No. Having Square on the cover won't suddenly make the series popular in Japan. The enormous majority of this game's sales will be in North America- probably over 2 million. It will sell under a million in Europe, most likely, and the 360 isn't overly popular in Japan, so maybe 35-40k there.

It might be able to manage third, and will almost definitely be in the top 5.

There is absolutely no way it will beat GTA San Andreas. It wont even beat GTA 4.
