How many have they sold so far?
Didn't they say they sold 22.3mil PS3's at the initial start of the fiscal year, and said 24.7 at GamesCom? Basically they sold about ~25.4mil by now, so 10mil left, yah?

then is it possible for SONY to say they have "shipped" 13 million......basically stuffing the channel with 3 million PS3's

Well potentially. I mean that would suggest that sales in the last quarter would be particularly slow because you aren't going to be able to stuff channels too much in non-holiday quarters. But if they were able to sell 10 million within those first 9 months or 3 quarters then yea it is very plausible that 13 million could have been shipped. Although that probably isn't going to happen, I'm just trying to point out the stuffing happens in the holiday quarter.
I would assume that if 10 million PS3's had been sold to consumers between April 2009 and March 2010 that given stuffing about 11.5-12.5 million would have been shipped. Shipments in that final quarter might be slow and the first quarter of FY11 may be slow (look at MS after they did this) but it would definitely give a bright outlook compared to their projections.
It is quite possible this could happen to and I will not deny it. But the beginning to that route will start in the coming weeks. It's a great opener no doubt, but the route to hitting that projection is going to be decided in the next 2 months.
people... 13million is shipped not sold.
last quarter they shipped 1.1 million. 11.9 to go. In one week we know they sold 500k. less than 11.4 to go. Last year 360 sold about 6 million. Probablly shipped at least 6.5 after the price cut for the holidays. I don't see why they cant come close to those numbers. 4.9 million to go. Can they ship 2 million more this quarter and 2.5 after christmas? possibly. The naysayers are just haters. I think they'll be about 1-1.5 million off though. A lot closer than the people in the other thread saying 3-4 million off.
PS3 will no doubt do well. But 13 M is still a little too optimistic.
Wait a couple of weeks, and then we'll see how likely it will be.

I see 13 million happening. I expect at least (1) 1 million week for the PS3 this holiday.
