Forums - Sony Discussion - Ken Kutaragi has his REVENGE! (Boo SONY for firing him)!!

Did anyone read what i said? Or did you ignore me and try to hide the fact i was right?

He would of kept the PS3 high price and useless accessories and it would STILL be around 500$.

Exactly.  He also didn't tell people that they should be happy to get a second job in order to purchase his console, or that they were so dumb that his company could launch the system with no games and it would still sell five million.

Leave Krazy Ken where he is, Kaz is putting the brand on the road to recovery.

            THIS!!!

Leave him be, he is fine.......living richer and happier than any of us, and probably doing absolutely nothing after getting canned.

You dont reward failure.....you move forward.

Um no. If you haven't seen Kutaragi's track record, his ideas are what kept the PSX and PS2 simple yet still maintaining a level of quality. This is why the prices were maintained at $299. Sony funded it and pushed DVD and Blu Ray through it and bought a laundry list of heavy hitting designers as well as publishing and contracting third parties. Ken Kutaragi is a vision of what Sony truly laughs at and Kaz Hirai is a vision of what Sony is all about. Jack Tretton is a toss up as always.

You do realize Kuturagi was the one who over-enginnered PS3 in the first place and Kaz is the one who has been trying to fix his mistakes since he stepped down?

It was Sony's idea to put the Blu Ray in the PS3.

Completely irrelevant point. It is generally agreed that Kutaragi is an excellent engineer but, unfortunately, a very poor "beancounter". He did overengineer the original PS3 by using two cell processors and building an entire manufacturing chain for the PS3 (essentially in his plan, Sony would build all components by themselves). When it became clear that this dual-cell system could not work, the shit hit the fan and the whole manufacturing idea crumbled - ultimately leading to a unplanned loss of at least $2b. From then on the PS3 architecture and manufacturing model basically switched into panic mode and that is what cost him the job ultimately.

(The old-fashioned way of "firing someone" in Japan was the so-called "window-job". Employees no longer neede would get a desk in an office where they would read newspapers all day until retirement).

The Slim will not have long term momentum. The increase will happen now, slow down and then during the holidays it will continue. It will end with the coming of January again. It's value will be determined by the 2010 lineup. Whats left of 2009 will be determined by the sales of the console itself. Uncharted 2 is all they have left. In other words it will sell in short bursts year after year. Hot games like GT5 will keep it going strong in those short bursts.

PS3 2010 Lineup

God Of War 3
Last Guardian
Heavy Rain
M.A.G.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Agent

*sorry if this comes out wrong, mobile safari sucks.

Huh? PS3 is in 5th place of all 5 current generation systems. Also, it's the biggest Sony failure since the 90s.

Didn't he wanted the PS3 to even be able to work as an internet router? He wanted it to do everything indeed...

"The initial prototype shown in May 2005 featured two HDMI ports, three Ethernet ports and six USB ports; however, when the system was shown again a year later at E3 2006, these were reduced to one HDMI port, one ethernet port and four USB ports, presumably to cut costs."

Wait a second here. Do you mean to tell me that the cell processors actually cost more than the Blu Ray, which before the PS3 came out averaged around $600-1000? Sonys initial losses were because of Blu Ray and they expected it to be so. This is why they were slow with gaming until the HD format war was over. Sony knew from the very beginning that the PS3's exceptance would be a long and hard fought battle. The price cuts and financial bleeding that they are going through today are a testament to that. People need to stop blaming Kutaragi for a boardroom decision Sony made with other companies to ensure the survival of Blu Ray.
