@Starterman
It's actually a bit different compareed to scantalators because Mirrormoon just gives out the translation patch. Not the final product itself.

It would be much closer to analogize it with them giving out a Txt file translation from a manga rather than the whole manga itself.

I think you mean giving a txt file translation, complete with a software that will replace japanese text on a raw manga with the text file... The level of inconvenience involved in your analogy is a bit too different ;p

I think they're quite similar in a lot of sense, though.

And true... I know how it feels living in a country where it makes no sense to buy a non-pirated game =(

A super txt file? haha

The point I was trying to convey was that the translation that they were offering is pretty useless if you don't have the product itself(i.e  manga or game)
Keep in mind the installer won't even extract itself if it doesn't detect the game where as a txt file can be read even without the product.
The scantalated manga analogy is even more extreme because they're offering the actual product itself(their translation and the official goods).

Where are you from Starterman?
If you don't mind me asking.

Hm... once again, to be fair you "can" read the text from the installer. You need to work on it a little bit, though.

I think current manga scanlation does that because it's just too inconvenient to create a text substitution software that I mentioned ;p. This is purely my speculation, but if digital manga is created in a format which makes it easy to put text in (not a simple jpeg that we have these days), we'll see translation patches distributed instead of fully scanlated manga. It reduces legal risk on the scanlators, after all (some scanlators are forced to stop scanlating licensed manga -_-'').

I think we're getting off topic a little bit. =)

Btw, check your inbox.

How is asking someone to pay for a game they want to play pretentious?
How is asking someone to have a copy to be able to use their translation put themselves up on a pedestal?
That to me is a pretty reasonable request.

Of course, I can understand people not being able to afford the game and resort to pirating, I've been to third world countries, I know what it's like to see (non pirated)games sell for the equivalent price of months of a working man's wage. There are a lot of factors that could prevent a person from buying the game. i.e. Price, availability, embarrasment, etc etc

But actually being arrogant enough to call them moralfags for that reasonable request is simply out of line and disrespectful. Especially because it's aimed at the very people who worked hard to let you be able to play that very game you are enjoying right now.

Did you read my post? O.o

After doing a bit of quick googling I can't find anywhere that actually sells the game aside from auctions which goes completely against the original purpose of buying a game, which is to give money to the creators. It's a doujin, a home made game, they shouldn't be printing any more copies, and I did not see them selling the game via download. I can't believe any doujin stores still holding any copies, and to buy it from them would require a physical visit to Japan, and hours of searching for an ultra rare game, and I'm sure that the auctions come from the smart shop keepers themselves that won't be selling such a game at the original price >.<

That's why I felt it was pretentious. They asked for a nearly impossible thing, and put everyone up to that standard.

You can put it through some translating thing, but there you go. They stopped printing copies. I mean, what did you expect from a doujin soft? That completely breaks the whole definition of a doujin soft if they mass produced them >.<

I can't get mad at you after all we've talked, but I'm a bit frusturated X.X

I'm aware that Tsukihime is nearly impossible to get at a reasonable price.
I've looked and I've given up and decided to wait for the remake.

That's beside the point though.
As I've said, I have nothing against you for downloading a game, I've no right to judge you and even if I did I would just be doing something hypocritical.
But do you honestly think It's proper for us to call them "such fucking moral fags" for asking us to obtain a game before playing it and using a service they provide? What grounds do we have? I'm curious.

Also, emotion clouds judgment, no need to be frustrated akvod.
I'm simply questioning your action not your character.

@Starterman
Ahh, but that would be called tampering, which is a whole new different ballgame.
I could tamper with registry keys, cracks and keygens for programs, doesn't mean the developer intended it to be free.

Because there is not point in obtaining the copy physically. You can't buy it from Type Moon anymore because it's not even being produced by them. All you can do is put money into the hands of auctioneers, who are profiting off the work and efforts of Type Moon, not Type Moon itself. So in fact, I should retract my insult of "moral fag", because they're not even morally correct.

But assuming that pirating a game that isn't even buyable from the creators is morally deplorable, I call them moral fags because they're the equivallent of someone lecturing you for J-walking, the farside of Lawful in the alignment chart.

It completely pisses me off when I hear somebody tell me to do something they already damn know is unrealistic (impossible in this case, if we're talking about giving Type Moon the money they deserve) and to waggle their fingers as they stand upon their pedstle of moral superiority.

We do not require a ground in which to call somebody anything. As for an explanation, I have given plenty.

That's one way to look at it, but you're missing an important point.
They're giving us a service and to obtain that service they gave a condition.

By your analogy they're the equivalent of a person telling you not to j-walk for a prize, yet you do j-walk but still take the reward and hurl insults at him for trying to tell you.

"waggle their fingers as they stand upon their pedstle of moral superiority."
When have they done this to you?
They asked you to buy a game to be able to use their free service.
That is not moral superiority, that's common courtesy.

Indeed we don't need a ground to call somebody anything, but it is proper to have one.
I can call just about anybody an asshole or a whore, but I do not have the grounds to do so unless they've done something that justifies such name calling.

Truthfully I don't need their service. It's just that I can't figure out how to run the game in Japanese even if I download it.

Just because you don't need their service doesn't mean that you can call them moral fags because they ask people to use their translation on an original copy. Honestly they don't even ask to use their translation only on an original copy.

This English translation is released in good faith that it will not be abused. By installing this software you agree to NOT distribute any part of this translation together with an illegal copy of Tsukihime, or any part thereof. You also agree to NOT use any part of this translation to help stimulate, promote or encourage the distribution of illegal copies of Tsukihime, or any parts thereof. Please buy the game when you can, Tsukihime deserves a serious treatment by everyone. "

You shouldn't insult people without knowing where they stand.
