Forums - Nintendo - IGN(orance):”Wii runs distant second to 360 in profits”...Oh really?

either way profits are useless unless you own stock.
what you guys should care it's the games.

Fuck yeah, who needs the profits to make games?

Games are made from thin air. Hoooray.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I love how he cites the Nielson statistics on activity, which even Nielsen says are not a direct comparison, to show how poorly the Wii si doing.

However, he does not mention the NPD info which shows the Wii sells more third-party software than the Xbox 360.

A troll. A real troll.

Nielsen noted that Xbox 360 and PS3 have more features (particularly multimedia capabilities) than other consoles measured in the survey, which would lead to more usage.

This is true in a direct sense, but there's an interesting thing with this generation: for the first time in a long time, each of the three consoles represents and has pinned its hopes on a very different vision of what gaming should be. Whether you're more a fan of Nintendo's fun entertainment, Microsoft's hormonal rush, or Sony's sensory extravaganza, there is no getting around this, and it's one of the reasons this generation is so polarizing. In gaming, as in most other industries, losing competitors tend to copy the winner. Thus, in a generation as polarizing as this one, many fans have a keen interest in how the different companies are doing, because whoever wins, their model stands to become more dominant in gaming generations to come. That is why people are so interested in profits: it's not so much about the companies themselves as it is about what they are doing with all that money, and what it means for future games.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Way to miss the whole point of the article and dwell on minor details. He was actually talking about how now that it seems like Microsoft (and Sony) might be trying to attract the casuals with Natal and Sony motion, they might be spending less time trying to attract core gamers which opens up more room on the Wii in that regards and could result in more games coming to the system like Fragile, Muramasa, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Madworld, and No More Heroes, that will appeal to gamers that are very putoff with what has so far been the main driving force of the Wii the Wii________ games.

As far as what he was talking about with the profits. If you assume that he was talking about the profits that hc games make on the system, then the Wii could probably be a distant second or even third. The Conduit has so far sold far fewer copies than Halo, Gears, and Killzone and No More Heroes definitely sold less than MGS4 and Uncharted.

But you are right that if you count all the games including the hefty amount of shovelware that crowds all the great games on the storeshelves like Carnival Games and Party Babyz, yeah Wii probably dominates profits with games that most fans of the hc consoles wouldn't want to play anyway.

I agree with the author and hope to see more or at least as many games like Fragile, No More Heroes, and Muramasa flow to the system in the future than games like Carnival Games 2 or even Wii Sports 3.

It goes to credibility. If he can get such a simple fact so horribly wrong, how are we supposed to attach any weight to his  opinion.  I don't read IGN to just just hear someone's opinion on games/gaming, i have friends for that.  I read it to hopefully become more learned about the gaming industry by someone who is supposedly a professional journalist and is employed and paid to be informed on such topics.

IGN is way off base calling the Wii a Hail Mary pass. Anyone that knows anything about American football knows that it's a fake double reverse. This guy should stick to watching Cricket or whatever it is that he's into.

Nobody trusts IGN and everybody knows Nintendo has been the money king this gen. They must have a pretty incompetent editorial team if they'd let something like this out.

The sad thing is, tons of people trust IGN.  I mean, just look at this site and how many 'IGN REVIEWS [X] game!!!!'  anytime a new popular game comes out a measure of that.  Or the fact that tons of people use it as a reference for rumors saying things like 'Matt thinks Kid Icarus will come out next year'.  But moreso, they're still considered the leading source for online video game related news.  Which is a scary thought when you consider the types things like this thread presents.
