Forums - Nintendo - Wii's Shovelware Problem. Will it fade?

I wish Nintendo would be a little stricter about quality of 3rd party software releases. But more about games that are almost unplayable because of glitches, or broken controls. I'm not sure about the quality of the Imagine series, but the fact that most games in the series are selling well suggests that it has a fanbase, and that some people are getting enjoyment out of them. In that scenario I don't have a problem with the game being on the system, just because it doesn't appeal to me.

I LOVE ICELAND!

While the PS2 had a ton of shovelware, it also had a ton of great exclusives. The Wii is getting the shovelware consistent with the winning console, but not the avalanche of great exclusives you'd expect to see. Great exclusives this gen are spread between the three systems, when last gen the ps2 had most of the noteworthy ones.

Yes and no ...

To a certain extent some game series and genres will have a lot more resources devoted to them so what was once seen as "Shovelware" will now become much more polished and "Complete" games.

At the same time, the combination of HD budgets being so large that publishers focus their best teams on those platforms to minimize risk and the lack of investment on the Wii providing few examples of third party conventional game success will keep the majority of the best conventional third party games on the HD consoles.

Not at all ,  first check definition of shovelware then look at the list of best selling Wii games. There are none in the top 20

Carnival Games is actually a pretty decent family game so i wouldnt count it as shovelware, not for everyone.

Some people need to stop seeing light family games "casual" as you think as shovelware.

Wii is hardly in the same position as Atari, mostly because it has and is getting worthwhile releases this year and because Nintendo is not preparing to fart out their own version of E.T. Anyone who thinks they are even remotely in the same boat is out of touch with reality.

Also I doubt games like Petz are hurting the Wii as a brand when those same games can be found on practically every platform on the market. If anything they're "hurting" the developers making millions off the people that continue to buy them.

your argument is as coherent as "It isnt, because i dont want it to!"

Nope, they´re hurting the wii brand, yes.

Cause the PS3 and Xbox have their own casual crappy games, sure.

But the wii has 10x more.

When the consumer buy these games and realize they suck, that´s dissapointment.

When the consumer buy these games for the second time, that´s hate. Hate for the brand.

"Stupid consumer! He should buy Zack and Wiki instead!"

How?

How the regular people can see the difference, by box art alone?

You have a full shelf of games ahead of you. All featuring colored boxes and fancy names. How can you tell which one is the best?

"The stupid consumer should look up at the internet and find out which one are good games!!!"

Yeah, but that´s a bold move! That´s a research job that the regular consumer dont belive he/she should have. At least, not for videogames.

Videogames are supposed to be just chose, play, have fun/keep your kids quiet.

Not a trouble on itself.

We, forum posters, blog readers, we have on us that our hobby is to play games and read about em. We know the stuff, in and out. But the new market dont know anything. And dont want to get a degree in gaming just to play.

Every game represents your console brand. If the vast marjority of these games gives the player a bad impression, you are in trouble.

Your reply makes as much sense as this picture.

IE, Zero.

You're taking your own opinion and pasting it on a group of faceless people even though the end results makes absolutely no sense. If people are repeatedly buying games from a brand then it's pretty obvious that they don't "hate" it  and aren't taking it out on the Wii. You don't hurt the console by giving this same group something that keeps them coming back for more.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

Cheap crap makes a profit, when the market is large enough.

When you have 50 million consoles on the market and 200K being added to it every week, and you can develop a game that only needs to sell 20K to make a profit then chances are there are 20K suckers among those 50+ million. The biggest invesment in such a game is probably making a cover that attracks the buyers.
