I doubt sony had millions and millions of slims ready to go. The initial supply will probably be fairly small:

a) they probably started manufacturing recently and pushed this out as quick as they could.

b) want to sell off existing stock of fats instead of taking them back and eating them.

Sony sent PS3 slim to the door of some major media in US, Europe, and Japan minutes/hours after it was announced.

Sony must have been stocking PS3 slim for quite awhlle now.

I never said they didnt have a stock built up. I am just saying they are not going to blow their whole load while there are still so many fats to be sold. They will also want to have a heafty stock available for the holidays. Any kind of shortage could kill their momentum at that time. It would be better for them to slowly fill the retailers up until the months mom and pop do the christmas shopping.

no idea what you mean here reask

UK... biggest market in europe

PS3 slim £249.99

Elite 229.99
Arcade 129.99

The PS3 is still the most expensive console in the US and UK...

That first sentence isn't true any longer. Germany has very recently become Europe's biggest videogame market.

I hear what you are saying Koweniciki but just think about it for a minute.

Guy walks in to store and asks sales person for his options.

PS3  with 120 gig hd + BR+ WIFI+free online 299

Elite + 120 hd+no BR+no WIFI+no free online I mean do the maths.

You know I am a 360 owner and a pleased one at that but IMO folks these days do there homework before they buy into something.

I will put it to you another way.

Monday morning having done the maths 360 would have been my choice.

Wendsday having done the maths PS3 would have been my choice.

Thats just my take on it anyway.

Launch:

PS3 $600
Bigger harddrive
Blu-Ray
Wi-Fi
Free online

360 $400
None of that

Soon:

PS3 $300
Bigger harddrive
Blu-Ray
Wi-Fi
Free online

360 $200
None of that

The more things change...

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I never saw a retraction. Are there links to it?

False, as it turns out.

Now see this is exactly what I mean when I say "getting our hopes up". I think we need to relax with all these threads about the slim. Its great news for Sony but lets not get carried away.

Do you seriously believe there wont be a reduction in MS (and possibly Ninty) prices over the next 2 months?

Its as if people expect MS and Ninty just say , "oh shit PS3 reduced prices... didnt see that coming... guess thats that then... close the doors and forget it fellas".

This site is hysterical at the moment.... some sanity and perpective needs to return.

Problem with price cuts is you can actually make it look cheap if you go to low.

I saw an article yesterday saying MS postponed there price cut announcement in the wake of the Sony conference.

That was on VG247 a site I have a lot of respect for.

At your point, no I do not think for one second MS or Ninty are giving up.

I just think the Sony move was a really good move.

Just look at the library now compared to 12 months ago I mean PS3 has long lost the tag of just wait till you see whats coming.

Hey great day for us gamers as MS are now on the back foot.

I know you own both consoles so have a much less skewed opinion than me on the matter ie I just see the PS3 hype.

Why would MS cut the price AGAIN? Or do you think they are that desperate?

Also, at Game... the PS3 is £249.99. On the website it is that price, and in the store it is that price.

As for your "sanity and perspective"...
Just because people dont have the same opinion or predictions as you doesnt mean they are insane.

Although i think that no one could 100% predict that it will turn the tables (although i certainly hope it does) it will definitly prove microsoft a very pressing challenge.

Sony have proven that they know what they're doing when it comes to designing and selling consoles in the past and i think they may just return the form now. Lets hope!

Proud PLAYSTATION PHAT owner

Well then, GfK Chart-Track isn't exactly accurate or thorough in their calculations. And it's not the first time they commit a blunder. Tsk tsk.

Edit: LOL The first time I read it there wasn't, I simply had the link saved for handy discussions. Shame on me. ;p
