I rather Nintendo of America speak and make sense, well at least to some degree, rather then send out Iwata who has terrible English to speak about a product which in it's self is hard to explain and only made worse by not showing any examples but rather on a verbal explanation to try paint the picture of what this product is capable of, and yes if you haven't already guessed it I'm referring to the vitality sensor and the awesome job the poor English speaking MR Iwata was going on about.
These socalled "hardcore gamers" remind me a lot of the hardcore music fans when I was in school. Stinky losers who no one likes, who won't stop whining about how their favourite metal or techno music isn't the only music people listen to. They get angry and call people shallow who don't agree with them. These kinds of losers now whine about the videogame industry.
I personally think we should publicly beat them up.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
Nintendo is the "sneering" and "condescending" one?
Yeh sure. Has this idiot seen the Wii coverage for the past 3 years?

I am a recently converted moderate fan, not a fanboy. I love Nintendo, I love the Wii, I love Wii Sports, I hope I can buy Wii music, Wii fit and Wii sports Resort very soon. Zelda Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy are timeless masterpieces. I didn't own any of the past Nintendo machines but I respect and admire everything Nintendo has done in the past. But I am some kind of new fan. Maybe what some people call casual.
Now I just want to say that I agree with most of the people who basicly said this guy is an ass... But he is an ass with all the three companies. I couldn't disagree with the Sony and Microsoft articles (I have a 360, too), but I kind of have a hard time with this one. There were a couple of pieces that hurt, maybe because they were kind of true. Please somebody check this, but is it for real that somebody within NoA sometime said "Only geeks and otakus want a hard-drive on their Wii"? Is he lying? I have never had problems of data storage, maybe I am too casual, but this little quote is really agressive. I mean, I love the fact that Nintendo is following the original way of Wii Sports, Wii fit and all those games some people call casual or even Non-games. But I also love Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Next Zelda, Metroid other M and other "core" titles. I am somewhere between Wii fit and Zelda, and very comfortable. But I am not a geek. And I think a hard drive is a very reasonable expectation.
My feeling is against those guys in NoA. I don't like Reggie. Why is he so arrogant? Don't get me started with Cammie. She is just stupid. It seems to me that these people love the business when it turn around the expanded audience but hate it when has to do with the Nintendo fans, those gamers who are very interested in the next Mario, Zelda and Metroid. Is like NoA has two kids: one retarded but grateful because is easy to satisfy and the other very smart and demanding. It seems that NoA favorite son is the retarded one. The smart one is treated with this passive-agressive shit. They pretend to love the older and smarter son but in the bottom of their hearts they hate him.
Now, the thing for me is that there is only one son. I am both of them. Nintendo (I mean the japanese masterminds) is giving me exactly what I want. I just got a 360, but I still have to say, I may still prefer the Wii. The 360 is sometimes too hardcore for me. Is the same stuff of the previous genereations but bigger. The Wii in the other hand is still so fresh. It contains the past and the future of gaming. But I feel sometimes that these guys of NoA want to destroy the past along with all the gamers (the consumers, the nintendo loyalist) who made the future possible.
In brief, I deeply admire Satoru Iwatta and Shigeru Miyamoto. But this guys in NoA... please, gimme a break.

Partially, as that was a guy from NoE who said that, not NoA.
But they're not out to get us specifically. It's just Nintendo being Nintendo. I mean, look at Friend Codes: worse for the casual gamer than the core gamer, since the latter will actually take the time to jump through the damned hoops. It's not any particular agenda of theirs, it's just them being them, and they have a long history of being similarly insensitive
But i loathe it when people like this guy make claims that we, the Nintendo fans, are in denial, and just need to wake up to what everyone else has already realized. It is unspeakably arrogant.

| xbebop said: Or you haven't thought about it enough. I love my Wii, but it isn't perfect. Nintendo needs to cater to the 15-25 "hardcore" group, as it is gigantic. For instance, if Nintendo makes the most technically impressive console next generation, they could recruit many "hardcore" game developers to make games for their console. Nintendo could also make the casual games and core Nintendo franchises. This would allow Nintendo to dominate completely. |
You are right that the Wii (or any system) is not perfect. But Nintendo took this generation by doing the exact opposite of what you said -- by not catering to the 15-25 "hardcore group."
That group thinks Nintendo is for kids, so no matter what you put on it, they aren't buying it. Instead, Nintendo has made games for everyone, just not exclusively for that demographic. The result is that those who are not receiving their usual special attention are crying. And Nintendo won a war that some analysts thought they should not even fight. (There were many calling for Nintendo to go the Sega-route with respect to consoles before this generation and almost all the rest predicted total lifestime sales of less than the Gamecube.)

Not sure why. This is all Nintendo has to say on the matter, and to this "Rage against the Nintendo" dude:

This means Nintendo gives people what they will pay for.
