Forums - Gaming - Gamers boycotting Activision

LOL...the sony fanboys continue with the anti-activision campiagn...notice a trend...

Microsoft raised the price of both versions of Modern Warfare 2, but that's not really why people hate them. You don't have to be a Sony fanboy to think Bobby Kotick is a douche for saying the PS3 needs a price cut, and then saying games need a price raise. They ditch every game they have that's anywhere near innovative and focus on milking their existing franchises into the ground.

That's enough reason for anyone to hate them.

Well, as far as I am concerned, if a game is worth that price for me, then I will buy it at that price.

Modern Warfare 2 is one such game.

This is the same as bitching about EA and Ubisoft in the past, it'll become a fad and then you'll all realise that most of the games you love that aren't first party come from one of them, and you'll cave in and buy their games. Except no one will make a thread about your lack of will power.

Look, I have nothing against you guys complaining about game companies (I do it too), but let's not go into this nonsense boycott crap again (I'm not pointing at anyone in this thread, just the gaming community as a whole).

That would be sound logic except that Activision has managed to make all of their franchises except Call of Duty suck.

A may boycott for about a year... after Modern Warfare 2 releases.

Hmmmm. GBA's already taken

I hate Activision, but I won't be actively boycotting something as trivial as a video game company.

That is because consumers do not want innovative. You cannot sell what people don't want. And if you cannot sell it, you lose money if you produce it. If you want to hate anyone, hate the consumers. Wait! You already do! (though not you personally, of course).

But yes, it's sad for you that people do not buy enough of what you want for the companies to make a profit from producing it. It's tough being the minority.

This is invisible text!

Wait. He says this:

"In responding to why Activision Blizzard chose not to publish certain games, he implied the company is not interested in games that "don't have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential and have the potential to become $100 million franchises,"

And people only start hating him when he says the price of games should increase?

He used to work for 4Kids, you know.

It's not that they don't want games that don't sell, it's that they don't want any game that won't became a $100 million franchise. That is a money-grabbing, evil corporation at its WORST. Yes, a corporation's aim is to make money, but can you name me one other company that would give up publishing a game because they don't think it will become a massive franchise?

Angry gamers begin backlash of Activision after Robert Kotick's statement that he'll like to see the price of games rise. With the sequel churner himself smug at the fact during the recession he'll happily rise game prices, starting with Modern Warfare hitting at an extra £5.00 sterling than usual retail prices.

Passionate rally cry after the jump..

(look at the comments, they speak for themselves)

Lol. Does anybody else find this ironic? Almost... familiar? I mean, I'm getting some deja vu here!

The BuShA owns all!

I've put a rule in place because I have seen a lot of games go to $69.99 in Canada since last holiday season.

I will only buy a game at $60 or more if it rates above 90% on Metacritic.

I wait for games to drop to $45 - 60 if it rates above 80%.

I wait for games to drop to $20 - 45 if it rates above 70%.

I wait for $0-20 for all others.

I don't care who makes the game. If it is worth it I will pay for it. If not, then I will wait until it fits to a price I am willing to pay.

I agree that game creation has become more expensive in the HD console world and therefore that cost should be transferred to the consumers in some way so they maintain their profits that are expected by shareholders (and if you invest in retirement saving plans, you may be a shareholder too).
