If you have an HD tv(the only tv's you can buy in 08) Dvd's will look like utter $hit on your tv. I know cuz I have a 720p Phillips HD tv.

That's funny because my DVD's look perfectly fine on my 40" Sony Bravia from less than 6' and more than 6'. Who knew.

Also, normal TV's will in fact be on sale through 08 and saying otherwise is pretty silly. Seeing a non-HD TV is the real high traffic areas is going to be very rare, true, but in the next aisle over there are still going to be a lot of standard TV's that will sell because they are in fact much cheaper.

Also, it's generally just best to ignore everything Pachter says. Everything now and then he gets lucky or picks the easy guesses but in general he's a flaming idiot.

I don't think Walmart or Best Buy are going to phase out their SDTV stock anytime soon. It will be years after stores stop selling them that HDTVs even begin to take a large marketshare.

Why is this being brought up again?

Never argue with an idiot.  They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I think that in a couple of years(you can no longer buy an SDTV if not used in the flea market) People are going to transition to HD TV.

My 32' phillips HD TV 720p/1080i cost about $649.99 in Brands marts USA.

A TV can last 10-20 years. Even if SDTVs are no longer available, there are going to be a ton of SDTVs sitting in homes that aren't going to be replaced any time soon. Until there is a compelling reason to switch, most people aren't going to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading.

Personally, I'm really unimpressed by HDTV. There's still crap for content and a sharper picture really isn't worth the cost to me especially considering that my SD set is still pretty new. If I were willing to spend enough money on entertainment to buy an HDTV and the appropriate accoutrements I would rather put the money toward something more interesting like a classic pinball table. Currently I'm not willing to spend that much money so my house remains lacking both HDTV and pinball.

There is already an HDTV in 1 out of every 3 homes.  Yet high-def movie sales are just barely above VHS.

So.  When's this rush supposed to start?  You know.  Considering the early adopters are usually the most in the know and people who get HDTV sets after this will probably know even less about them.

I can get a good 32" SDTV here for less then $230, so that would be an extra $400+ that I could spend on games and such. :)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

You mean your parents have a 720p Phillips HD tv...

You know that most of the TV chanells already  are or are going to be HD chanells in near future, couple of months to be precise. So if you have SDTV, than you picture will look like crap.

I agree that HDTV have long long way to go before they replace SDTV, but folks that even now have SDTV are not big dvd or any other high tech buyers.

People that care about buying dvds, they will switch or have already switched to hddvd/blueray, it is that simple.

srry for my english but i dont have time to spell check now.

Using Patchter as your source is a seriously desperate move. He couldn't predicy the effects of gravity on a bowling ball.

Desperate maybe but he was one of the few analysts whoes thoughts become true.
