You guys are missing the point here. This is not a puzzle game simply because they removed the combat. It'slike a real horror movie in that the main character isn't necessarily capable of demolishing every 'scary' thing in their path. The strategy lies in finding ways to escape.

I'm really looking forward to this.

The ppl in horror movies have weapons/ objects to defend themselves with like the first SH game that everyone loves.  Weapons aren’t the problem with survival games these days it’s having too much ammo and never worrying about running out.

I'm not even considering 4 and 5 horror games here.  In the original Resident Evils, the original Silent Hills, the Fatal Frame games, etc, you almost always have a way of completely mitigating any threat that you come across if you're good enough.

Think of all the great horror movies - the Friday the 13ths, the Nightmare on Elm Streets, etc.  These movies had such a scary atmosphere because, for the most part, the main characters had nothing with which to defend themselves from the terrifying threat - they were being stalked.  How scary would the Scream movies have been if all the teenagers being 'chased' were armed with shotguns?

This looks great, and i like that it really is a Survival Horror, not steroid packed action game like RE 5 (which i just bought ha ha).

First off, Friday the 13ths, Scream and Nightmare on elm streets films are comedy horrors.  Every single one of them is not scary.  The main characters in those films are idiots too.  If you're going to pick movies, say 6 sense, The Others, etc.  I can understand that.  I played  games that doesn’t have weapons like Shadow of Destiny and Haunting Grounds.  Shadow of Destiny was great but Haunting Grounds which is more like this new SH game was fucking stupid.  It’s only a matter of time when you will get sick of running.  Then they will be no fun boss fights like in the first SH.  All I’m trying to say is I love the first SH game and I love motion/IR controls both of them would have been great together for melee attacks, shooting and searching play.

The movies you mentioned work, too.  But why are things like boss fights a prerequisite for a fun horror game?  Wii has plenty of action-based horror games coming out, like Cursed Mountain, bso what's wrong with one that takes a different approach?  You have to remember that the game isn't just about running, as there's a lot of strategy involved.  Lighting flares keeps them away from you for a few seconds, for example, while tossing one behind you in a narrow path gives you some breathing room.  Just because you can't kill them doesn't mean there's no strategy involved.

@KylieDog: But you could say the same of fighting. You end the game by shooting something, but you began the same way. It depends on how you do it.

I don't remember seeing those arrows when I played it at E3, so I'd guess they're optional.

Definitely looking good, I love the individual shadows on the snowflakes. It's good to see some games with a bit of eye candy on the Wii now that developers and publishers have started to take Wii development seriously. The Conduit (although the art style does let it down slightly!), Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Cursed Mountain, Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, Muramasa Demon Blade, Gladiator AD and The Grinder are all looking great.

And this is all after only maybe a year and a half worth of work on the Wii. Imo developers and publishers only took the Wii seriously after it continued to fly off shelves after Christmas 2007, proving that it wasn't just a fad. And games will look even better in 2 or 3 years time. Great stuff.

I like boss fights in survival horror games because i like the feeling of fear i get when i finish a objective and wondering if i have to fight something huge if i open this door and i only got 1 clip left and i didn't save or couldn't save.  Thats intense for me but i love showdowns.  I only played three survival horror with action game and that Obscure, Manhunt and Bug Island.  I wouldn't call that plenty.

It really is very different, throughout the (old) games you find new weapons as you progress so the combat changes, new enemies require new tactics, you need manage ammo for the weapons or the way to face enemies needs change...with running an extra option.

What are you gonna do in this?  "Oh, a humanoid monster...run!"  then later on "Oh a dog type monster...run!" followed by "Oh a bat type monster...I'll put on my new Reebok trainers....and sprint!".

How are they gonna mix it up so the game isn't stale after 30 minutes?  Running doesn't leave a lot of options.  Some environmental way to avoid enemies maybe?  A defensive item that makes flash blinding them or something?  Other games have done that and kept weapons at the same time.

you know you don't need to fight in silent hill, besides boss battles all other monster are better off ignored, i never shot a bullet in my playthrough of the first 3 games and barely had enough ammo to finish of the final boss. so silent hill and fighting do mix well.

I won't play this game alone, that for sure after see these videos. (lll-_-)

I already mentioned this, but there are indeed flares to keep them at bay.  You can either hold it for a few seconds to clear a path ro drop it so they need to find a way around it.  That's especially useful if you toss it behind you in a narrow alley.  There's plenty of environmental interaction, such as hiding in closets, knocking things over to deter them, and barricading doors.  Of course it would get old if you simply ran the entire time - the object is 'evade' rather than simply 'run'.

Like I said to the other poster, there is plenty to mix it up rather than simply running.  I already mentioned the flares (that
