If it suceeds, and Sony's spring comback wit MGS4 and GT5 also succeeds, and Xbox 360's AAA exclusives somehow fail, and Microsft can't get a good strategy RPG, the PS3 will come in second.
If the 40 BG succeeds, all it means is that the PS3 won't be dead in the water, and Sony won't be forced in any way to discontinue the PS3 very very early.

I think its make or break personnally. Even more so than some of there big games. If it does succeed then sony will have an excellent xmas and 2008 could see a real turnabout for them

If not it will just confuse custamers and lose sony a lot more money.

i don't think the 40 gig is even the story here. For 100 euros more you can get 2 games, an extra controller and BC. For many people BC alone is worth that extra 100 euros. People are going to be eating the 60 gig up not the 40 gig. If the 60 gig runs out and there is only the 40 gig left you can expect sales to go down, but I fully expect there to be another SKU by that time.

Being that each region is gets its pricing/SKU stargety, it seems that they experimenting but not screwing themselves by making a mistake globally.

If the 40gb does take off in Europe, then I fully expect one in the US.

Honestly, I don't see why any of the companies would make a radical departure from their existing hardware architectures so backwards compatibility will be a trivial problem ...

I expect Nintendo to produce an asymetric Quad Core CPU (where each core is designed around a particular set of tasks like Physics, Animation, AI, etc.) and to extend their GPU design to be capable of greater texture effects and higher polygon counts. Microsoft I see as going super-parallel with (potentially) 8 to 16 cores in their next CPU and a GPU based on the latest and greatest PC CPU (which will be compatible through legacy directX functions). Sony is kind of a wild card and I don't have a clue what they will do ...

Maybe Sony will have multiple Cell processors in their next iteration. I think the Cell Processor clock can go upwards of 7GHz.

Anyways back to topic... I hope it 40g does well. There are plenty of people that want a ps3, but it's the price holding them back. Sony could always holla back the words "We get options, We r not forced to pay extra for things we don't need" like MS fans do. All in all we might actually be suprised. It's now a cheaper Blu ray player.... that may help as well :/
