Forums - Nintendo - Will Motion+ go the way of the Balance Board, Wii Speak?

The thing is that Zelda is about the only major motion controlled game they've announced or discussed. Thus it seems by default it's the only one.

I'm wondering when Lucas arts will stop f*in around and make a damn lightsaber game already. Its almost a garaunteed multiplatinum title at this point.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I personally think in a year there will be more games in development that use M+ than games that don't use M+. Third party devs are just getting the hang of developing ideas and concepts that use the wiimote well and are itching to get better responsiveness and accuracy out of the controls.

So I think most of the games you will hear about in development during 2010 will be motion + supported games. I'm sure Nintendo will release a couple big games that support it but the third parties will use it heavily in my opinion ;)

Current Favorites:
Wii - Muramasa, MH3, Metroid Trilogy, RS2, Okami, RE4, COD, Dead Space, Scarface
PC - L4D, TF2, BFBC2, Killing Floor, Aquaria, Warsow, many UDK indie games
Mods - MechWarrior:Living Legends, Star Wars: Galatic Warfare, PVKII, Goldeneye Source, L4D mods
PS3 - Demon Souls, Way of the Samurai 3
Social Modding Club: ModDb | Steam

@Lord: I know, they surely will make more, but will the other motion sensing games use it, or it will be a secondary controlling method? If it's the latter, it will limit all the potential M+ has, since there will be some moves and actions that people won't be able to do without M+, therefore devs will have to make 2 different games if they want to use M+ to it's full potential.

If they make an M+ game, they have to be sure it's M+ only.

I think they should have had at least a couple more games for the launch of M+, I repeat it's not just another optional peripheral, it's the evolution of the WiiMote. Should have been advertised and supported far more heavily during it's launch. People need many options to get convinced, otherwise they won't be attracted and could lose interest soon.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Nintendo sold more than 20 million Wii Balance Boards. How is that unsuccessful?
Nintendo sold more than 3 million Wii Speaks. How is that unsuccessful?
I think Wii Motion Plus will be a great add on for the Wiimote.

Balance Board is not an integral part of the Wii, you may see it as a secondary platform. M+ does enhance the capabilities of the Wii, therefore needs to be on most Wii's if we want most games to support it. When a game has multiple control schemes, it's most probable that it won't be as refined, due to restrictions the other scheme imposes.

This is an important point. Nintendo has made a habit of bundling their new shiny peripherals with complementary software that makes for an enticing package. So while someone may have no problem buying Wii Fit if they are interested in the software, the way nintendo keeps the balance board hostage by bundling it with software seems to reinforce its limited use, as seen with the abudance of fitness related balance board enabled games. The fact that Wii Fit is about the exceed the total install base of the ps3 with only a handful of worthwhile balance board enabled games out there is telling. The Balance Board is being treated by third parties like a set of rockband drums, with the software being developed for it specifically having a very narrow range in the form of fitness and lifestyle games.

In the case of M+, even if tommorow Nintendo decided every new Wiimote came integrated with M+, there are millions of legacy users with no M+. Third parties are in a bit of a tough spot, having to configure their game for regular and M+ enabled wiimotes, thereby reducing the amount of effort they are able to put into integrating M+, or any optional Nintendo peripheral for that matter. W+ is available seperately though which is a good thing as those interested in a particular M+ don't necassarily need to buy a bundle to get it. Working with the benefits that Nintendo's peripherals provide to make a more immersive game experience while still making the game work for users with just a wiimote is going to be a challange for third parties.

Since a whole bunch of games use the balance board and more are coming (this year and next at the very least), I sure hope that Wii Motion Plus goes the way of the balance board. Cross your fingers!

Alright how is Wii Motion Plus not being used in Wii Fit Plus or New Super Mario Bros Wii (a game that is played NES style and I'm certain the extra inch would get in the way) is it really that big of deal?

You're making a bigger fuss then need be honestly >_> hell I'd be happy for SMG2 to use it but the extent of motion controls in SMG was using the remote as a joystick to control Mario on the ball, and it is rated one of the highest games of all time. Seriously games that need motion plus will certainly use it, the ones that don't wont.

Give me one example of how NSMBW or SMG2 could use WM+ in a practical way that doesn't feel tacked on that will enhance the platforming gameplay.

I would list Wii Fit Plus in there too but that's a game that's using the unsupported balance board *rolls eyes*

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

Remember when we thought Ubisoft was pissing on the Wii? Now it turns out they used the balance board in two platinum games at least, and while one was multiplatform, the next is going to be Wii exclusive.

Motion+ can do even better.

Are you people blind? I'm talking about 1st party support. You are the worst kind of people because you don't read the OP properly. Just go away or read the OP, choose one.

After six paragraphs, you mention that in one line.  Don't be shocked, because of how misleading you were that some people are confused.  You may not have done it on purpose, but it might even look that way to some folks.
