Sony bought Psygnosis back then, making further wipeouts 1st party.

^Sony still loses

(EDIT) And is Twisted Metal & Wipeout. really the reasons why the Playstation is remembered? Also, Gran Turismo's presentation is about as average as a racing game presentation can be.

There barely were any racing sims back then. And GT was better than them all too, making it definetive and unique.

Most good SNES games are 3rd party too... so I guess that loss is mutual.

Super Nintendo had many third party classics. But since it has tons of great Nintendo games too, the loss is not mutual.

Tons? a dozen perhaps...

N64? that's tons for you.

This must explain why I like Wipeout. It wasn't Sony's.

I own Wipeout 64 so I thought that maybe it wasn't.  :p

Sonys console had some good games............... No question about that.

I just get pissed when sony are praised for been a gaming giant when actually they are nothing more than a gaming purchaser.

When people look in the history books in many years to come, people will KNOW that the best games on sonys ps1 were ALL made by 3rd or 2nd party developers.

Nintendo will be respected till the world ends for making some of the greatest games of all time.

How anyone can have even a shread of respect for sony baffles me.

Sony's awesome 1st party games:

Crash Bandicoot games

Spyro The Dragon games

Gran Turismo games

Medievil games

SEGA's awesome 1st party games:

Sonic games and...lets see...uhm... THAT'S IT

Nintendo's awesome 1st party games: (SNES generation)

Mario games

Zelda games

...and that's it

First of all, Spyro and Crash never belonged to Sony so that leaves you with Gran Turismo that could be considered first party only because Sony bought the studio that made the game. That leaves about one and a half of the games you listed for Sony.

Second. Someone beat me to it, but your gaming lisence should indeed be revoked if you think Mario and Zelda are the only games that are highly praised by Nintendo.

Aside from ignoring Donkey Kong, when the Super Nintendo had three Donkey Kong Country games, you forget the following franchises: Metroid, F-Zero, Starfox and so on.

When it comes to first party Nintendo is unbeatable.

Sega beats Sony in that category too. They had Sonic, Golden Axe, the Phantasy Star games (Nuber 2 innovated RPGs heavily) and Streets of rage were considered staple Sega franchises in the 16-bit era. Granted, they are not as unique as say Mario or Zelda, but seriously how unique is Gran Turismo?

Sony owns Naughty Dog- the people who developed Crash, and Spyro was made by Insomniac which wasnt 3rd party, rather it is 2nd party.

And besides Donkey Kong, the only highly (and i mean highly) praised game by Nintendo were Zelda and Mario (maybe Super Metriod but i highly doubt). Seriously did you saw all Nintendo comercials back in 90's? Almost all of them were Mario and Zelda.

And none of those SEGA games were as big or hyped as Sonic, maybe just Golden Axe.

And Gran Turismo was the best driving simulator back there and its the best driving simulator now :)

Yeah it does matter. If your comparing too consoles with incredible game libraries and one console has excellent first and third party games and the other has only excellent third party titles then the winner is the console with both. If the console maker with great first party content didn't exist gamers would have missed out on top notch games. If the third party dependent platform didn't exist gamers would have been playing those very same games on a different platform.

First let's cross out the nonsense.  I will address the highlighted portion.

A game is not more special or somehow better if it's first or third party.  A great game is a great game regardless of who makes it.

Your position makes about as much sense as arguing that the console with the most games with blue game boxes should be the winner.

Nintendo was hurting badly from the whooping that Crash and Spyro did on Mario for a long, long time, weren't they?
