Forums - Sales - Sept. Wii software vs PS3 software

Wii Sports should not count, in the U.S. at least, and Wii Play is questionable at best. The Wii people are pretty hostile about stuff like this. Maybe you just should have compared Wii third party software.

The Wii people are hostile because this is bought up so often that it just gets boring, almost as much so as 'The wii is for little kiddies' and 'People only dont buy the PS3 because they are too poor'.

Some things just piss people off.

I think Wii Sports should be included once multiplied by the attach rate in Japan (0.5ish I believe?) and Wii Play should just straight out be included, sure its essentially a ten dollar game, but since when have we discounted budget titles from analysis?

If you were to do an analysis of full priced games only then I believe you could discount Wii Play.

Bleh software this generation is so screwed up sometimes I can't even be bothered. I mean with Virtual console, Wii PlaySports and Warhawk you know there is going to be trouble.

Any and all bundles should be included

Many people bought the Wii for Wii Sports, that's proberbly what got them on the Wii in the first place, they wanted that game

If there wasn't a Wii Sports and a person bought the Wii they would then have to purchase at least one new game, therefore in turn bumping up the sales of some other existing game

People dont buy a console and have no games for it, it is right to include Wii Sports

What were the past gen leaders? ps1 ps2

The ps3 wont follow the same path because the wii is better and everyone wants it because its selling well. HA HA. Wii ftw!

1. WiiSports is a game
2. Do we not count SMB, Tetris, Sonic, Motorstorm or any other GAMES that are pack-ins?

I don't care if people don't want to take it into account for comparissons and such, but don't act like it's not software in the costumers hands.

Not counting WiiPlay is ridiculous. Despite you buy it with a Wiimote its still $/€ 10,- for the game. If people want to dismiss all budget titles...

sorry if this has already been said.

Imagine the Wii didn't come with a game, consumers (unless they're incredibly stupid) will buy a game, instantly upping the software/hardware ratio to 1:1, now imagine that the wii was actually selling badly and retailers were making bundles of 2-3 games included in the package for LESS than the original RRP.

I'm sure the tables would be turned.

Wii Sports is selling hardware, but at the same time its instantly removing a software sale that would HAVE to be made.

If you are going to subtract wiisports from the equation, to keep it fair you would need to also remove all those PS3 packages that came with 2 - 3 FREE games (2 of which are the best games on the machine).

Reminds me of another fanboy i used to argue with, one of his best quotes was "the only reason the wii is selling so well is because its popular"

The numbers mean little, for BOTH systems. This is a relatively slow month, for the FIRST YEAR of these consoles. Did the 360 have much better software sales last September? Of course the 360 this year could easily top them, even without Halo 3. So let's look at the PS3 and Wii software sales NEXT September and see how well their libraries have taken off.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

this thread is ridiculous.
the fact is, your paying ten dollars for wii play. it should be counted.
why dont you count the total software sold for both consoles thus far to get your attach rate, instead of just one month.

i could easily just cherry pick the week halo 3 came out and use it to say the 360 sells 3 million units of software every week. that would make as much sense as what the TC posted.

listen to the wise and handsome OkeyDokey.

You can't discount Wii Play + Sports. Therefore, your numbers are wrong from the start. The end.

Wow, I didn't expect such a poor post from you of all people. I'll end this conversation about wii sports in 5 seconds. NPD doesn't cover it nor consider it software sales. End of f'n conversation? The only place on earth that considers american wii sports as software sales is THIS site. The only place it is real software sales is where it's not packaged with the system such as Japan.

Here's a history lesson: In Feb 07 when Lost Planet was the top selling game of the month, Capcom released a statement proclaiming them the highest selling game of the month. Did you know this site had Wii sports as first? A. It's not software to NPD B. Its not software to game companies C. Nintendo would be releasing press releases detailing the Wii Sports sales landmarks if THEY considered it real software.

NPD however does include wii play so that is allowed to be included in Wii software.

PS: The same point applys to konnichiwa's ridiculous post.

Appeal to Authority. Why figure anything out for yourself when somebody bigger has already worked it out for you?
