I'm just thinking that most people who buy a PS3 right now are either hardcore or have copious amounts of cash. Either way, both demographics suggest they will buy more titles than the more casual Wii market. Also, since the PS3 numbers are lower any statistical abnormalities (one person buying 10 games) would have more of an effect.

And what does this attach rate prove anyway? That Wii games suck? That people are just buying the Wii because it's a fad and not for the games afterall?

You can cover your eyes and ignore those games if you want, but they have a significant effect on the Wii attach rates, of course, because they're games people are playing and enjoying. And in the case of Wii Play, buying. This means Wii owners have a lot of entertainment available to them and you're pretending it doesn't exist -- someone who is in the middle of playing a great game isn't likely to go out and buy another until they start getting sick of their game.  Without Wii Sports being a free pack-in, other games would have been purchased in their place.

Also, Hus' posts read like an angry drunks posts more often then not.

I'm just going to chime in and say that if Wii Sports hadn't been packed in with my Wii, I would NOT have bought it. I would not have payed five dollars for it. I'm not saying it's BAD. But as for me, it was only not bad because it was free.

sqrl - yes those games would count. you are buying the game and the accessory is the pack-in. you are not buying the accessory and the game is the pack in.

and I still say wii play shouldnt count in determining an actual attach rate. its like counting controllers. you pay $40 for controller and $10 for a game what do you supposed was you motivation for that purchase??

if wii owners need to see these games on the charts to feel better about themselves and thier console thats ok. but when you want to see how many games people are going out and purchasing you dont include them. pucrchasing a controller is not the same as purchasing a $60 game. You got to compare apples to apples.

no other site includes wii sports, and the whole point of this post was to highlight the PS3's good software sales. and to show how good i gave a point of reference. i just used logic and compared games to games, instead of games to consoles & controllers.

Technically, you're getting a free controller with the $50 Wii Play.  That's what is implied on the box.  Of course, we all say it's a $10 game plus a $40 Wiimote, but that's not the point. 

What's the motivation for buying Wii Play?  Well, of course the motivation is that it is $10, and most people need an extra Wiimote too.

But that doesn't matter.  The "why" does not matter.  The fact is, it costs money to buy the game, and it's selling.

This isn't about Wii owners' egos or whatever.  You're skewing facts and it's wrong.

You can highlight the PS3's good software sales without intentionally skewing the Wii's side.  I understand Wii Sports, I do not understand your ideas on Wii Play.  I didn't buy Wii Play, because I realized it'd get old, and I didn't really need to waste $10.  It's just a $10 game, I don't get why you can't just add it to the list.

The other angle to this are the downloadable games. Both system sell games online and those should also be counted in attach rates. I'm sure dgm6780 would happily agree with this for Warhawk, but probably less so for VC games. But really, these are games SOLD, and many of them are 3rd party. It's just a different medium and price point.
Since Wii seems to appeal to a lot of 'old school' gamers, like myself, I'm sure many are happy with a just a couple games and a lot of VC titles. Tell Sega or Hudson these titles don't count...
