Forums - Microsoft - Win7 is the future now. BEL7EVE

I'm getting a new gaming PC delivered (hopefully this Monday) what's the best Version of the RC 32 bit or 64 bit ? I'll use my PC for everything from gaming to surfing the net and downloading programs so I need something to work with all that.

also what's the best way to install it, should I burn the ISO on a DVD and run as soon as I assemble my PC parts or should I install Vista first and upgrade from there ?

Sorry to go off topic in your thread Zen :)

I found this from a website:

What if I don't pre-order the special deal?

After the July 11 cutoff date for the special deal, a Home Premium Upgrade version will cost $119.99 and a Professional Upgrade will be $199.99. The same pricing is expected after October 22 when Windows 7 will be available to everyone.

Standalone versions of Windows 7 Home Premium will cost $199.99, Professional Edition $299.99 and Ultimate Edition $319.99.

If you have Vista or XP, and get the preorder deal to upgrade, you are getting a 199.99 dollar OS on your computer for 49.99. You are basically getting 150 dollars credit for owning Vista or Xp, if you act now.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

ugh no.

it vista make over.
installed on a celeron 2.53ghz 1.2gb ram with a nvidia fx 5500.
it ran slow and used most of my ram. leaving with only 100mb of boot.

had problems with AC 97 drivers (doesn't work well with 5.1 windows 7).

and Aero still clunky as ever.

while it a 10% improvement over vista.

i can run ubuntu with all the effects and never go down 50fps.

No sir, none of that is true. Those are malicious claims from a umbuntu fan, imo. All beta testers disagree, and even PSRock. Also, you pulled the 10 percent out of your ass, and to many, even a 10 percent improvement is worth 49.99, and also, almost nobody wants to use ubuntu.

Anti-Monopoly propoganda, imo.

i just installed dualbooting to ubuntu fully when 9 came out. and i try 7  RC1 on the same pc.

it's still a vista make over,  7 was still memory hungry and ate cpu cycles like crazy.

The problem is you have Aero active. Turn that off and Win 7 will run 100% better. Your system can run Win 7 easily if you turn off the extra features.

it runs like ubuntu, with compiz on :P. i rather have compiz on. i found a way to install my msdn copy of office 2007 and virtual box xp certain apps :P

Yeah, and for 50 dollars, XP owners who game can finally upgrade and use DX10, and all the modern features they missed when they skipped Vista. Vista owners, for 50 bucks, can increase the speed of their computer, and get some more streamlined new features.

50 dollars is the right price.

You know, you might consider shedding some light on these new features if you want anyone to give a damn about them.

And from what I've read, W7 breaks backwards compatilibity with older programs even worse than Vista does, and as a (retro) gamer this is a deal breaker for me. So I'm sticking with the older stuff for the time being.

Well Im still and XP user and TBH until I get an ultra performant PC or a must-have game comes out that I can only play by upgrading, I doubt that I will buy W7 soon :|

i am using ibm lotus symphony for office, netbeans for school proyects, banshee for music, firefox 3.5 as a power.

ps3 media server for streaming and even some windows applications with whine, i don't think i will have to return to windows in a while.

for gaming machine i think the desktop i built still faster in xp DX9 and steam.

Seems like a lot more hassle than just having windows do everything for me :P

Anywho I have Vista and don't see the problem with it so I'll hold off on the upgrade for a while..

That's because your specifications are not all that great. Your processor is fine, but the RAM could be higher and a better graphics card is needed. Try this:

I#ll be buying a new laptop next year before uni

so it'll hopefully have win 7 preloaded in it

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Really? I was doubtful of Windows 7 for a short bit. I'm glad to hear that reviews for it are great. I may consider changing over from vista to Win7 on my PC. Will it actually improve overall performance?
