Nope. I don't see a reason to buy one when I have a PS3. My PS3 has taken the place of my DVD player and PS2 btw.

that thought has crossed my mind from time to time but so far so good. if the day comes i do burn the BR drive then yeah i might think about getting a standalone player but thats something to think if that day comes

When the PS3 Slim comes out, i will get another for BR. I have 55 Blu-ray movies and 30 PS3 games. So i may need another player at some point.

So, for the folks who said no - if your PS3 optical drive broke, would you buy another PS3? How many movies/games do you all have? I have at least 20 PS3 games and about 10 Blus, but the collection is growing.

I'll eventually pick up a stand-alone BR player when the prices drop, but for now I just use my PS3.

I admit, I am a bit concerned that the drive will burn out, as I have a 60GB PS3 and use it to play PS2 games quite frequently. But it's not a major concern.

If it did break? Yes, I would likely buy another PS3.

As for your second question, I have only two PS3 games (Singstar and Valkyria Chronicles - I sell the majority of the games that I finish) and about 35-40 blu-rays (most of which were bought when Amazon had those great BOGO sales, the rest are bought from forums like blu-ray.com and redflagdeals.com).
