Actually I hate Western RPGs... My comments come from liking games like the Team Ico games, Okami, and the vast scale of MMOs but not the lack of plot and terrible gameplay.. As far as a large world conflicting with a deep story, I can give Final Fantasy VII as an example although obviously I would never want a story that convoluted but the world in that game seemed huge (at least for late 1990s standards) and yet it had a deep story. Again, I would never want Zelda to be as convoluted as that game but I want more back story and cinematics than what they have done to date and more information about other characters. There are subtleties to the existing Zelda narratives that go beyond just save the Princess but maybe in this one Zelda isn't kidnapped at all... As to the Steam Punk suggestion, I see that is just a natural evolution of Hyrule's existing style since their are already steam driven gadgets in the game. I just would like to see a darker more mature version since I'm sort of tired of the child Link storylines. In any case, this is just all aesthetics and doesn't make a bit of difference other than me wanting to see the art direction go in a totally different direction. As to Ganon... Surely there is another bad guy that could be used instead of him. He felt really tacked on at the end of Twilight Princess. Maybe they could bring back the guy from the Minish Cap Vaati. |
I'm terribly sorry for being rude, but I kind of want to punch you.

Its ok. You just keep playing OoT and I'll play the awesome new Zelda Nintendo comes up with when it is released. Eventually you will come around to seeing things my way. Probably, after Nintendo does alot of it though...
BTW, what do you think about Spirit Tracks? I will get it and play it like always but I have to say that I have the least hype ever for it. Maybe because I hated doing the same dungeon over and over in Phantom Hourglass. Or maybe because the train mechanic in it just looks lame... I dunno

Nice try, but OoT is barely even in my Top 5 Zelda-games.
EDIT: Also, I'll never come around to seeing things your way, because Nintendo aren't going to go your way, hence your whining about how Nintendo need to change or someone else should take over.
Regarding Spirit Tracks, I can't say I'm hyped for it, but I'm sure it'll be a stellar DS game so I will most likely pick it up.
@ Majin: Seriously? Barely in your Top 5? o_O
And I'm happy to see some people think Ganon should stay. I would be worried if he left for a better world, or realm. Whatever.
Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

It was a great game for it's time and it brought Zelda into 3D, so naturally I will always love it for that, but I think both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were superior to it. I also prefer A Link to the Past(my favorite Zelda-game), which bumps it down to 4th. OoT is a spectacular game, and if I compare it to a game from any other series it will in most cases win, but when I compare it to other games within it's own series it falls short.
EDIT: For the record, I also think Ganon should stay. There's no reason to have him go away, and it would most likely cause a lot more anger than it would cause happiness.
I never said something else SHOULD take over. I said people will tire of playing the same thing over and over and over and over. Also, the reason why Nintendo lost a ton of gamers when PS1 came out is because they failed to embrace CD technology which allowed more/better quality cut scenes and a more immersive experience. I get that Zelda is about gameplay but there is such a thing as being too formulaic and too stubborn to evolve into a more modern game. The series needs to do things different in order to progress at this point. Whether that is back to basics or a more grandiose approach I don't know.
In any case, you certainly haven't provided any feedback or original ideas on what should change or stay the same but have no problem sniping my ideas.
Also, there have been plenty of Zelda's where Ganon wan't the main antagonist as I already pointed out. I don't care if he is or not but if he is in, I don't want him tacked on like in Twilight Princess and I would also like to have some motivation behind why he is doing evil besides that he is just evil because he is.

I suggest you go replay the game and talk to everyone, do all the sidequests and just basically get all the juice out of the game. I had the same thought as you just recently (placing The Wind Waker before OOT), that is before I finished the game just recently and with a lot more understanding of what was going on. Last time I played the game, I didn't really care about the universe of the characters, I only wanted to get the items and stuff (and I didn't understand English much). The game has so much backstory and detail that you really notice that Miyamoto was at the peak of his career. I mean it's crazy what he's done with this game. The pace was perfect and at the same time it didn't hold your hand like most new Zelda games (seriously, now you do the temples in a certain way instead of deciding which one you want to tackle first)... and the ending... Wow! o_O
Oh, and I agree about Silentmac and his steam punk theory. I'm apparently not the only one seeing that technology in the Zelda world seems to make surface a lot more recently (ZeldaInformer is an awesome site, check it out). I mean, with the steamboat and the train in the last two DS games, I wouldn't be surprised to see airplanes or some concept of an airplane in a next Zelda.
And yeah, Ganondorf appearing in TP was pretty random. I replayed the game recently, and I still don't understand if he's THE Ganondorf from the Seal War or not. He seems like a random badass thief with the name Ganondorf... with the Triforce of Power... Which doesn't make much sense.

I did do that recently. I did the same with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. One nice touch in Wind Waker, I thought, is that, you know the three pearls you're supposed to place in the statues, so they form a triangle and then bring that huge tower up? If you look at the map placement, the places you put those pearls are pretty similar to where you find them during A Link to the Past.
Ah yeah, my friend at Zelda Dungeon told me about that before (it's been like five years since I talked to him!). It's kind of funny to see that Miyamoto and his development team didn't seem to try to make every Zelda games fit in a specific timeline, yet at the same time it seems like everything matches together. One theory I've been reading is about the geographical evolution of Hyrule in the Zelda games that would place TWW before ALTTP. So what you said would kind of make sense...
I can't wait to see where this new Zelda fits in the timeline.
