Forums - Sales - How much will Halo 3: ODST sell FW, End of 09 & Lifetime?

I think 9mil is absurd, even with the Reach beta.

I'll say:

FW - 2mil
09 - 4mil
LTD - 6mil

With Halo 3, the marketing was insanely big and people had been waiting 2 years for the arrival of Master Chief onto the next gen Xbox. I don't see the anticipation this time around being almost as much, despite all the surveys lately.

As with Halo Wars, I also expect a strong showing in the traded-in section.

No Master Chief, not a main series entry and probably won't have half the advertising budget Halo 3 had.

Still, 2.5 million F/W worldwide sounds good. Probably 6 or 7 million lifetime.

...yeah, if anything, Reach will be the game to challenge sales records, not ODST. Still, ODST will sell well.

Thank god for Reach. That game can keep the 360 very competitive, by itself, for another good year.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Just a few questions about the multiplayer. I read on wiki that the MP will be basically identical to Halo 3, so will it be compatible with Halo 3? And does it have any new MP features to bring people across to the new title

There isn't actually a ODST multiplayer.  ODST just comes with all the Halo 3 maps ever made plus 3 new ones.  But they do have another multiplayer mode called firefight, which will be like gears of war horde mode.

So can you just play the Halo 3 MP from the ODST disc? Anyway, I think about 4m probably, as most of the sales of Halo are for MP, so I think most owners won't bother gravitating over

Hmm, I think people into Halo MP would get ODST just from sheer fanatacism...if not the Reach Beta.

Now, it might only sell 4m...but everyone who is really into Halo MP is gonna buy it, make no mistake.

Well the relatively poor sales of Halo Wars compared to the all other Halo games says to me they are not that fanatic about the name, more about the multiplayer, and with nothing new being added to that, and the fact that they want to just to play the game with their friends, who all have Halo 3

Lol, Zen, you're really playing it safe with this 4 - 9 mil LTD bracket...

The first disc of ODST will contain all of the ODST content. Single Player campaign, Co-op campaign, and firefight. The second disc with be all of the Halo 3 multiplayer aspects minus the campaign.

Not sure how this game will sell.

1 million first week. Maybe.

I am definitely interested in Reach, wonder if they are going to be shaking things up a bit with the gameplay.

Or maybe they just like First Person Shooters ?

ODST will have co-op multiplayer and every released Halo 3 mappack so there you go

I'm just going to admit that I'm no longer paying enough attention to this to make a sound prediction, but one thing is clear; pretty much every single prediction people have had about games, and especially "legs", this year has been overestimated.

The machines are just barely up in software sold, and as the competition among games is larger (more games that take their share of the pie), your average game sells less.

Machine - last year up to June 22nd - this year - difference.

Wii - 57M software - 61M - +4M - +7%

Ps3 - 28.2M - 29.7M - +1.5M - +5%

X360 - 34.9M - 38M - +3M - +8.5%

These increases are hardly anything at all.  Well, DS is up 11M (23%) to 58M, but the consoles are hardly up.

The "games pr console" is now finally dropping down to the 6th gen levels. For the Wii, it is looking like it, despite having a larger userbase, will sell less software in its 3rd year than the Ps2 did.

Well, on to the point again. Software is selling less than any analysist expected it to, and I think that we still haven't fully taken that in.

You mean exclusives? All exclusives on the PS3 will forever be overestimated. Sony fans like to "over" things. Overhype exclusives, overestimate legs, and sales in general for their exclusives.

I think if you look at multiplats, like Red Faction or Prototype, those games sold as well or better than expectated. As did Resident Evil 5, which was a huge success this year.

No, I didn't mean just with the Ps3, nor exclusives only.

Pretty much all the Wii-analysts (myself included) around here overestimated Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit for 2009. Then there's Wii Music, Animal Crossing, and the list goes on. The expectations have, this year, greatly exceeded what they actually sold. For 2008, it was vice-versa. That definitely shows something.

And the same has been the case for the X360, althogh I don't have a ton of knowledge about its SW sales at the moment.

Now, of course - every game doesn't sell less than expectations, but a great majority does. Not just exclusives, and definitely not just Ps3 games - claiming that is ridiculous.

It wont outsell Modern Warfare 2, and it will sell more near to Gears 2 then Halo 3.
